Their footsteps echoed in the now-empty ballroom, and I could almost make out the tiredness in their eyes.
"Did you two have fun? It was quite the event." Baba came over with Abu.
"It was great - really made me realize how much I miss when I'm not in Agrabah. Auradon parties are lame." Abu jumped onto my arm. "And you must have loved the assortment of food, didn't you?" He nodded in response and ran off to rummage through whatever was yet left at the snack tables.
"I loved it, it was such a great way to end off our trip! It's been a much-needed break from reality." Harry added on.
"I'm delighted you enjoyed it. I know you kids are kept busy throughout the school year, and I can't imagine how much must be on your minds." Mom nodded.
"You really can't." I subtly alluded.
"Well, it's good you got a break. If there's nothing else, I'd suggest you both try to get as much sleep as possible tonight."
"There actually is something else, if you don't mind. It's quick." I hope.
"Go on." At this point it seemed like it was only me and Mom in discussion, Baba and Harry stepped off a bit to the side, merely observing.
"I don't really know any way I could bring this up that doesn't make it... I don't know... uncomfortable... so I'll just get on with it." I took a deep breath, struggling to find the words. "Do you... have you ever considered that... have you ever got the feeling that the supposed villains from the Isle... weren't always on the Isle?"
"Of course they weren't always there, (y/n) - they were sent as a result of trouble that was caused in Auradon Kingdoms. You know this." Mom matter-of-factly threw that out there.
"No, what I mean is, that the villains lived in peace on Auradon, long after the trouble - they lived here with their kids and everyone got along."
"Is this for one of your "What If?" type school assignments? Or perhaps a passion project, where you switch everything up?"
"Mom, this is real. I'm asking if you remember." I pressed on, not willing to let it drop. If I could get something out of Captain Hook, then I'm not leaving until I'm absolutely sure I've exhausted my parents' knowledge - if they supported us, we would be so much stronger.
Even if it's very unlikely they remember.
Even if it let up that I did.
"I think it's time for you to go, sweetie."
"Mom? What do you mean?"
"You and Harry should head back to Auradon - before anything gets disrupted. It was nice to have you, but pleasantries are done with, am I wrong? You're here for something else, information we can't provide to you, rendering this trip useless. So I suggest you and Harry find something better to do with your time, and leave Agrabah."
"No, Mom, it's not like that! I was just asking." The desperation in my voice was becoming evident. "We don't want to leave."
"But we want you to. Promptly." Her face remained rigid, unforgiving. This can't be - why did she switch up like that? I can't even - I'm not being able to process what's happening.
Tears welled in my eyes as this feeling sank in. "Y-you want me to go?"
"For the time being."
"I'm sorry I asked, but aren't you overreacting a little?" My voice shook. "You always say I can tell you anything-"
