A gif to accompany Aladdin and Jasmine's "first dance" :)
Your POV
I jumped at the quiet voice directed at me, but grinned at its accent.
I didn't turn around. "Maybe." I directed back.
"Lucky guy." He paused. "Insanely lucky, considering he's with the Crown Princess of Agrabah."
"What gave it away?"
"The tiara, of course. Apart from the fact that you look royal tonight."
I laughed and spun around. "What took you so long?"
"This is a big room - besides, it's no fun if it takes no time. Ruins the tradition, right?"
"Depending on what you think the tradition is for." I smiled. "It's been a long day."
"Tell me about it. Daniel is great, but he ate my head off for hours, talking about literally anything that can be talked about. It was beyond tiring."
"You too? I went through the exact same thing with Dai!"
"They're perfect for each other, then."
"I hope others don't think we're dry. We aren't dry, right?"
"Come one - there's only so much time a person can spend actually invested in a conversation. We aren't dry, we're human." He glanced over at the couple in question. "And those two are something else."
"Whatever it is, I'm glad you're here with me. It's comforting."
What Harry was about to say was cut off by the starting melody, signifying the beginning of the evening - and the first dance.
[Imagine this whole sequence similar to the partner part of the Harvest Dance from Aladdin - but obviously by this time Aladdin's learnt the moves! (And it's less borderline hostile, haha) - the only question is if Harry's truly learnt them...]
Mom and Baba grandly walked up to the center of the ballroom together, hand in hand. They were coordinated, elegant, perfectly in sync. Everyone watched in silence as they owned the room, creating no doubt as to whose palace this was.
With a signal from Genie starting with Dahlia, those of us who were from the palace joined in. Dai and Daniel merged in, and Harry and I crossed the floor to join them. We positioned ourselves according to the set-up, making sure the royals and close associates were evenly spread in the center.
Within a second the beat dropped to include us, and the routine began.
I had always loved this dance, and was amazed at how well Genie had brought Harry up to speed. Either that or he was tampering from the sidelines - unlikely, as he was engrossed in playing his own part with Dahlia.
I couldn't help but grin as Harry's eyes interlocked with mine, which turned into a laugh in seconds. In an effort to not mess up the steps, I tried to suppress it.
Harry was smiling as well, but had to ask at my laughter, "Is it that bad?"
"Not at all." I managed in between breaths. "Just never thought I'd be doing this with you."
"Considering how horrible I was this morning, you probably never would've." His hand brushed my cheek for a fraction of a moment, a seamless movement that was so Harry and definitely not part of the routine. "But Genie has a way of working his magic."
I squinted my eyes in wonder at whether that was hinting at a literal or figurative use of magic, but let it go. "Any chance pirates have a tradition like this?" I spun around him and then continued the thought. "Because if there's an ancient sword dance you never told me about - count me in."
"I vaguely remember Harriet saying she wanted some tradition like that at her wedding." We slowed down as the song was reaching an end. "If that plan ever materializes, you'll be the first to know."
I smiled as the applause surrounded us, and the real fun began.
"I'm going to sneak off for a second to transform this dress. It'll only take a minute."
"I need to do the same, lighten this up." We walked to the entrance of the hall. "See you in a second, princess." We headed down opposite directions to the nearest bathroom where we could shed the layers on our outfits.
I checked out the front and back of the dress in the mirror, making sure everything was how it should be.
Not according to plan, I left the tiara on. Because how often do I get to wear this? Even when I do in Auradon, it's never one of this beauty.
I hurried back to the ballroom, nearly bumping into Harry - who was blocking the entrance.
"Whoa, slow down." He caught me.
"Harry. Why are you standing in the way?"
"I was waiting here for you."
"Oh. Mission accomplished, I guess."
"More or less." He grinned. "Ready?"
I nodded and took his hand, reentering the room as everyone parted to make way.
The lights dimmed enough to queue a slow dance, and I wrapped my arms around Harry's neck as he did around my waist. "Our favourite."
["A Whole New World" Instrumental version begins to play...how could this not be their favourite?" (pace the dancing to the tempo - 0:48-50 gets me every time🥺)]
We leaned into each other, moving to the music, close in each other's arms. Without thinking our muscles moved to the music, swaying and spinning and twirling to each beat. As the music slowed, so did we. By the end, it was more of a hug as I rested my head over his shoulder.
The festivities of the night took long to die down, but for once we didn't mind. Even as the guests from other families and states began to leave, Harry and I took advantage of being the center of the event, doing everything we wanted for hours.
For a while, I even forgot about the matters that had plagued my mind for what feels like countless nights. Even if it were just for a moment, it was the best feeling. No Isle, no Auradon, no villains and no heroes - just a boy and a girl, and a feeling that felt something like love.
This whole Agrabah segment (that's coming to a quick end) could honestly have been a 2.5ish iteration, but I think it'll make sense why it wasn't formally segmented as an iteration - the true next iteration has to come in with a bang!
