Not Our Quest

I'm sitting on the beach with Percy when a man approaches us.

"May I join you? I haven't sat down in ages" He says.

"Uh, sure," I say.

"Your hospitality does you credit. Rarely am I affiliated moment of true peace and-"the man stops for a second. He picks up his phone., "yeah? Listen, I don't care if he is chained to a rock getting his liver pecked out. If he doesn't have a tracking number we can't locate his package. A gift to humankind... neat. You know how many of those we deliver? I gotta go," he puts the phone down, "sorry over night express business is just booming."

"And who exactly are you?" My brother asks.

"Have you guys nor guessed? Perhaps this will help. Original form please," the man says to his phone.

Is sparkles a little before shaping into a caduceus.

"Your Travis and Conner's father," I say.

"Not the connection I thought you'd make," says Hermes.

"Luke's father," says Percy.

"Why are you here?" I ask.

"I brought gifts to aid you on your quest," he says.

"Wait a quest? We don't have a quest. I don't want another quest. I was just talking to Travis about how I'm not doing anymore quests ," I say.

"You and Travis friends?" He asks.

"You could say that," I say.

"The quest wasn't assigned to one of us. I don't have permission," Percy says.

"Are rules going to seriously stop you?" Asks Hermes.

"I guess not," says Percy.

"I'll see you later. I'm going skip out if that ok," I say to my brother.

"I guess. I don't know where this new found confidence is coming from but I like it," says Percy.

I smile and Hermes looks at me like he's knows exactly where it's coming from.

"Say hi to the Stoll's," says Hermes as I walk away.

I walk back up the beach and realize how much trouble my brother will be in and me even if I don't go.

I see the Stoll's laughing at their latest prankee.

"Travis, I told my brother I didn't want to go on the quest!" I say.

"Does your brother have a quest. I thought Clarisse did," says Travis.

"Yah she did which was the bad news," I say.

"Oh I see," he mumbles, "and here he comes."

I turn and see my brother coming towards me.

"Phoebe would you please come?" My brother say.

"No," I say.

"Phoebe," he pleads

Ugh I want to just give into him. I look at Travis.

"I- um no," I say.

"What if I go with?" Asks Travis.

"What are you doing? I thought we were sticking our ground?" I whisper to him.

"You said you'd go if I had a quest. So if I go you can help your brother," he says.

"That a lot of people," says Percy.

"Um, Travis or nothing," I say.

"I guess nothing," he says.

I celebrate a little inside.

"Ok have fun. Please don't die,"I say.

"Ok fine I was bluffing. You can come Travis," Percy says, "come down to the beach."
