We had left Venice two days ago. We had decided to stay in sea during a while, which was fine with me. I look at the water and make small geysers pop up. They didn't get very high but it was entertaining.
Nico watched me play with the water with a bored look. He moves closer to me.
"Can I talk to you about something?" He asks.
"Anything," I say.
"I- I just need to tell someone but- you can't tell anyone. Please promise me. Swear on the river styx," he says.
"Um...," I think. I trusted him more than almost anyone. Except maybe Travis. Whatever it is, it would be fine, "I swear on the river styx I'll never tell anyone... whatever your about ti tell me."
He nods and looks out at the ocean, "I'm gay. Or I think I'm gay,"
I had to stop for a second. This was a lot to take in at first. I just keep staring at the ocean.
"That's a big confession," I say unsure how to respond.
"I shouldn't have told you. You feel ward now don't you?" Nico says.
"No it fine. No, great actually. I'm happy you trusted me with this. Have you told anyone else...?" I ask.
"No, just you," Nico says.
I can't believe I'm the only one he's told. Not even hazel.
There's a little more," he says.
I stand up a little taller.
"I think.... I think I might um... I think I might have a crush on Percy," he says.
I stumble back a little. He looks at me concerned.
"No, it fine. But I ..." I wanted to tell him that I don't think Percy really hi s of him like that.
"I know he doesn't like me, but I can't help it. I've been trying so hard to tell him. I've been trying so hard to tell anyone. I should t have told you. Its gonna be awkward and-"
"Nico stop. It's fine. It's a little bit if a surprise but it fine. It'll just take a minute to adjust to the thought," I say.
"Your not gonna tell Percy are you?" He asks.
"No, I swore on the river styx. But maybe you should tell him. Just to get it out. Or tell hazel or something," I suggest.
"I just can't," he whines.
"And I guess that's fine," I say, "and hey, I'll always be here if you need to talk."
He smiles, "thanks Phoebe. And f Hh red red to talk-"
"I'll be coming straight to you," I say, "with all of my problems," I add with a sarcastic smile.
He cracks a genuine smile for the first time in weeks. Ever since Tartarus he's been a little messed up. It was nice to see him happy for once.
Suddenly the boat lurches forward throwing Nico and I forward towards the front of the ship. He fumbles back but I grab his hand before he can hit the ground.
I look around. Trying to spot what it was.
"Gah!" Leo yells. I run over to him, "it eating the oars!"
A giant turtle was at the base of the ship chewing other oars.
"Phoebe, do you now what that is?" Asks Jason.
"A turtle? My guess is as good as yours," I say.
Piper was shooting food out of her cornucopia trying to distract it but it only seemed interested in the ship.
Frank was shooting arrows at it. Leo was trying to retract the oars. I was trying my best to mess with water and get it to move. I wasn't very successful.
We try and get the ship to pet ur can't get past it.
"It doesn't look that harmless. Maybe I can get in with it and see if I could move being closer," I suggest.
"We can't risk that. If you get in it might decide to be less harmless," Jason says.
More oars snap and Leo continues to cuss in Greek at it. Jason flew onto its head and tried to stab it in the eye but the word bounced off with not even a scratch.
"I'm going in!" I yell before anyone can stop me.
I plum it underwater and see the full size of this massive creature. It was bigger than some islands.
I blast my self up slightly to look above it. I swim to the surface making a few water horses. They were one of the few things I could make out of water without fail.
The turtles fin hits the water and I throws me into the air. Before I hit the water I had turned upside down and do a dive back in. I look around for an idea.
I see something fall into the water off the ship. I blast myself back onto the ship.
"We need a distraction," Leo says.
"I've got something. Piper, Hazel jump in with me," I say getting to the rail. They look at me unsure, "trust me. Come on."
I jump the rail and they follow. I find the three water horses I made earlier.
"Get on and just ride around it. Hit it with you weapons. Must be as annoying as possible until Leo can pull off whatever his crazy plan is," I say.
The horses help the girls on. We make laps around the turtle continuously hitting it with our swords. It wasn't distracted enough.
"Piper, use you charmspeak!" I yell at her.
She gives random commands but they only work for a second. But soon the monster had forgotten about the ship and only cared about us.
As soon as the Argo ll had passed through the straights, I tell the horses to take us back to the ship. A moment later the three of us were back on deck.
The Argo ll limped forward under sail power. The turtle stopped at the narrow entrance, obviously too big to fit.
We debated on a plan since our straight was more of a dead end. Then Piper says the worst thing imaginable for a demigod.
"Well at least the turtle can't get us here. We're safe," Piper says right before an arrow comes flying at her and sinks into the mainmast, six inches from her face.
