The Ice People

It was weird and unexpected. The temperature dropped drastically. The sails cracked with ice. I rush from the back of the boat to where I knew Jason, Piper, and Leo were.

Sure enough they were there but in shambles. Jason was froze over somehow and Leo's feet were frozen to the deck. Piper was looking around furiously.

"Let me go!" Yells Leo.

I ran towards him but a voice in the storm said, "Oh, Leo Valdez, I will let you go permanently."

Leo shot skyward, like he'd been launched from a catapult.

"No!" Piper yells.

She raises her knife but there was nothing to attack. I come to her side with Tidal Wave drawn.

The other couldn't get out. They were sealed in by ice.

Before I could ask what was happening I see the enemies appear before us.

"Wasn't expecting that one," the girl says.

She flicks her hand trapping me in ice like Jason. I try to move but I couldn't. I was just stuck. I take second to get a better look of the girl.

The girl wore a glowing white dress of silk with her black hair pinned back. Her eyes eyes were like coffee but she radiates cold.

Behind her stood two goon like things. Both younger with purple feathered wings, stark white hair, and jagged swords of celestial bronze.

The lady turns back to Piper, "So good to see you again ma chère," she says, "It's time we had a very cold reunion."

I struggled some more but I couldn't break free. I could feel the cold seep into my skin. I can handle some cold but this is excessive. I've gone into cold waters for hours at a time but this hurt.

It was getting harder to breathe. I wasn't exactly paying attention to the events outside the ice.

"Let them go," Piper say weaving in some charm speak.

One of the bird goons snapped his fingers. We instantly defrosted. Jason and I both fall onto the ground gasping for air.

"You imbecile!" Khione screams. She waved her hand and Jason and I were refrozen on the floor unable to move again, "If you wish the girl as your prize, you must prove you can control her."

"The other girl is pretty," says the other goon. He definitely is the less smart of the two.

"And let me guess," Khione says, "You need her as a... prize too?"

Cal nods his head furiously.

"Fine," she says waving her hand. I fall back on the ground gasping for air.

I sit up looking around furiously. The one that gets me for 'a prize'.

"As for Jason Grace...," Khione's eyes gleamed, "He and the rest of your friends will join our court of ice in Quebec. Jason will Grace my throne room."

"Clever," Piper mutters, "Take you all day to think up that line?"

I did t quite want to get up off the floor yet. I was worried about Jason still stuck in ice, I was worried about what happened to Leo, and I was worried about the rest of the crew below deck.

"What about Leo?" Piper blurted out, "where did you send him?"

Khione walked around Jason inspecting him like he was a price of art.

"Leo Valdez deserved a special punishment. I sent him somewhere he'd never return from," Khione says, "Alas my dears, this is for the best. Leo could not be tolerated, even as an ice statue. The fool refused to rule at my side," she says shaking her head, "besides he could not be aloud to reach the house of hades. I'm afraid lord Clytius likes fire even less than I do."

Piper furiously lord around for something to get us all out of this.

"Well," Khione says, "I fear our time together is at a close. Zethes, I you would-"

"Wait!" Piper yells lacing in some charmspeak.

The command worked. The brothers stop moving.

I'm still sitting on the ground. I look at Jason frozen on the ground. His mouth was still gaping open from where he was gasping for air.

I turn back to Piper. I listen to her have a skilled conversation with Khione. I'd seen annabeth do it thousands of times. She was talking to distract her long enough to come up with a plan.

Khione was talking about why killing us wouldn't be satisfying enough to kill our friends now.

They kept talking until pipers face changes. Once again I'd seen annabeth do the same thing. That was the plan face. And not like my brothers stupid plan face, this was Annabeth's good plan face.

Piper begins to laugh. She looks to me and pleads with her eyes for me to start. I start with a giggle and as I go it become easier.

For some reason the two brothers join in as well. Khione looks around.

Her smile wavers, "what? What's so funny? I've doomed you!"

"Doomed us?" Piper laughed, "Oh gods.... Sorry," she says in a shaky laughing breath, "Oh boy.... Ok. You really think we're powerless? You really think I'm useless? Gods of Olympus your brain must have freezer burn. You don't know our secret do you?"

Khiones eyes narrow. She looks at me.

"Of course. Did you not think we had a secret weapon. Of course you wouldn't be smart enough to think far ahead," I say.

"You have no secret," Khione says, "you're lying!"

"Ok, whatever. Leave me here and take my friends," Piper says, "Useless," Piper snorts with a laugh, "Yeah, Gaea will be really pleased with you."

"Sister," Zethes says, "If she really does have a secret then we must know."

Khione obviously didn't buy it. Piper kept a straight face. Her eyes say go ahead and call my bluff.

"What secret!" Khione commands, "Reveal it to me!"

"Suit yourself. Follow me ice people," Piper says.

She looks at me if I was going to follow but I knew she needs to alone. I would only get in the way.
