"Smart call choosing air conditioning," I say to Leo.
Him and I had just searched the museum. Now we were sitting on the bridge that was over Kladeos River waiting for Frank and Hazel to finish scouting the ruins.
Leo skips a rock across the river.
"Was calypso that obvious?" He asks.
"Piper and Jason were onto you. Luckily they don't know her myth. They drilled me a little," I say.
"You didn't tell them did you?" Leo says alarmed.
"No, but I may have mentioned it to Percy and maybe Annabeth too."
He looks at me like what the heck. I hold out my hand and the stone Leo skipped come to my palm.
"Percy basically blew himself up in a volcano. I wasn't there. I was- well like Percy said earlier prancing around the labyrinth with Nico. But I heard all about her afterwards. It took him a while to get over her," I say.
"Is that why your face got so twisted at the mention of her name?" Leo asks.
"It broke my twin brothers heart Leo. He only left cause he had to. But right on top of that if he had stayed I would have lost him. Either way I shouldn't really like her," I say, "no offense. It's not her fault."
Leo shrugs.
"Guys!" Frank stood at the far end of the parking lot, waving us to come over. Next to him Hazel say On top of Arion.
Leo and I jog over to meet them.
"This place is huge," says Frank, "the ruins stretch about half a kilometer."
"How far is that in regular measurements?" I ask.
Frank rolls his eyes, "that is regular. In Canada and the rest of the world. Only you Americans-"
"About five or six football fields," says Hazel.
"See. Was that hard?" I ask.
"Anyways, i didn't see anything suspicious from overhead," says Frank.
"Neither did I. Arion took me on a few laps around the perimeter," says Hazel.
The stallion nickers and tosses his head. He says some very unflattering things about this city.
"Man your horse can cuss," I say shaking my head, "He doesn't think much of Olympia."
"So we blunder around together," says Leo, "let trouble find us. Its alway worked before."
He wasn't wrong.
We poke around for a while, avoiding groups of tourists. Frank found a pamphlet and insists on giving us a rundown.
Everything Frank talks about what basically rundown.
"And over there.... Oh," he looks at me, "Um that semicircle depression in the hill, with the niches... that's a nymphaeum, built in Roman times."
I could feel the color drain from my face, "here's an idea: let's not go there."
It wasn't a fear of drowning it was a fear of evil butt kicking nymphs who try and suck out your powers and life force in evil water that I happen to not be able to breath in. I don't think there's a technical term for that.
"I love that idea," says Leo.
We kept walking. Frank points out more landmarks. We stop at a huge temple. A temple to Zeus according to Frank.
"Used to be a huge ivory statue of Zeus in there. Made by the same guy who made the Athena Parthenos," says Frank.
"Please don't tell me we have to go find it," I say.
Arion begins to act skittish. I didn't even have to look at him. His presence was stronger than most horses. He whines. He was nervous about something.
"Hey Phoebe," Leo says, "remember that statue of Nike in the museum? The one that was all in pieces?"
"Yeah?" I say.
"Didn't it use to stand here? Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong. Please Id love to be wrong," says Leo.
I grab Tidal Wave, "you're right. If Nike would be anywhere it's here."
"I don't see anything," says Frank.
"Maybe if we promote Adidas shoes? Would that make Nike show up?" I ask.
Leo smiles nervously, "Yeah I bet that's totally against ever sponsorship deal. THOSE ARE NOT THE OFFICIAL SHOES OLYMPUS. YOU WILL DIE NOW!"
Hazel rolls her eyes, "you two are ridiculous."
Behind us a thunderous voice shakes the ruins, "YOU WILL DIE NOW!"
I turned. We just had to summon Adidas the goddess of off brand shoes.
Towering over us in her golden chariot with a spear aimed at Leo was Nike.
