Pushing through a curtain of mucus was just about as fun as I thought it would be.
The four of us find ourselves in a damp pit, that looks like a basement. I couldn't see any monsters.... Yet.
Annabeth runs her hand across some marks on the wall, "This is it," says Annabeth, "These are the trident marks of Poseidon."
I stare at the marks. Percy runs his hands across the marks, "He must've been using his extra-extra large trident."
"This is where dad struck the earth," I mumble.
Annabeth nods, "where he made a saltwater spring appear when he had the contest with my mom to sponsor Athens."
"So this where the rivalry started," says Percy.
"Yeah," Annabeth says.
Percy pulls Annabeth in for a kiss. A long kiss. Like awkwardly long. Piper looks at me. I shrug.
When Percy pulls away, Annabeth looks like a fish gasping for air.
"The rivalry ends here," Percy says, " I love you Wise Girl."
Annabeth makes a sigh, like something in her rib cage had melted.
Percy glances over at us, "Sorry I had to do that."
"How could a daughter of Aphrodite not approve," says Piper.
Percy looks at me, "We already talked about this. It's adorable."
Annabeth made a grunting noise, "Uh... anyway. We're beneath the Erechtheion. It's temple to both Athena and Poseidon. The Parthenon should be catty-corner to the southeast. We'll need to sneak around the perimeter and disable as many siege weapons as we can, make an approach path from the Argo ll."
"It's broad daylight," Piper says, "How will we go unnoticed?"
Annabeth scans the sky, "That's why I made a plan with Frank and Hazel. Hopefully... Ah. Look."
A bee zips over head. Dozens more follow.
"Say hi to frank everybody," says Annabeth.
I wave. The cloud of bees zip away.
"He's our go between," Annabeth says, "As soon as he gives Hazel the word she'll-"
"Gah!" Percy yelps.
Annabeth clamps her hand mover his mouth, which was weird because suddenly they had earthborn bodies.
"Hazels mist," I say. I look down and realize I was an earthborn just like the other three.
"We should get moving," says Annabeth, "I'll move clockwise around the perimeter. Piper you move counterclockwise. Percy and Phoebe go down the center."
"Wait," Percy says, "we're walking into a blood spilling sacrifice trap and you want to split up even more?"
"We'll cover more ground that way," says Annabeth, "We have to hurry. That chanting..."
I hadn't noticed til now, but I heard it. An ominous drone in the distance. I look at the ground and notice bits of gravel trembling.
"Right," I say, "We'll meet up at the giants throne."
