Reyna

"Incredible," Reyna says looking at the Athena Parthenos.

She was still red eyed from crying about her Pegasus's death. Even though I wasn't a child of hades I could sense it's death.

The praetor circles the statue warily, "It looks newly made."

"Yeah," Leo says, "We brushed off the cobwebs, used a little windex. It wasn't hard."

With Festus keeping watch we had all decided to eat lunch on a hillside. I still hadn't left Percy's side and honestly he hadn't left mine.

I felt like I was intruding after what him and Annabeth went through but every time I look at her she just smiled at me gratefully.

"Hey Reyna," Annabeth yells, "Have some food. Join us.

She thinks for a minute before agreeing. We talk about Franks promotion to Praetor. We talk about Reyna's flight her and his she tracked us down.

"Reyna your being to modest. Flying halfway across the world by yourself to answer Annabeth's plea, because you knew it was your best chance at peace? That's pretty freaking heroic," Percy says.

Reyna shrugs, "Says the guy who fell into Tartarus and found his way back."

"He had help," Annabeth says.

"Obviously," I say, "He couldn't find his way out of a paper bag."

"True," Annabeth says.

"Hey!" Percy complains.

I ruffle his hair a little and he pushes me playfully. He smiles and laughs along with us. It was nice to see him smile.

"So," Leo says, "The twenty million peso question, We got this slightly used forty foot tall statue of Athena. What do we do with it?"

Reyna squints at it, "As fine as it looks on this hill, I didn't come all this way to admire it. According to Annabeth, it must be returned to camp half-blood by a Roman leader. Do I understand correctly?"

Annabeth nods. I look at the giant statue if Athena. She had never loved me or my brother. She hated him more for dating her daughter, but I'm still not high on her favorite demigods list.

"It makes sense," Nico says, "That statue is a powerful symbol. A Roman returning it to the Greeks ... that could heal the historic rift, maybe even heal the gods of their split personality."

"Now hold," Coach says, "I like peace as much as the next satyr-"

"You hate peace," I say.

"The point is Jackson," Coach says. I guess I was promoted from girl Jackson to just Jackson, "we're only.... What, a few days from Athens? We got an army of giants waiting for us there. We went to all that trouble of saving this staye-"

"I went to most of the trouble," Annabeth says.

"-because that prophecy called the giants bane. So why isn't it coming to Athens with us? It obviously our secret weapon," Coach says.

"Uh great idea coach, but a lot of us have had visions of Gaea riding at camp half-blood..."Piper says. She sets her knife down next to her plate, "Since we got back to the ship, I've been seeing some bad stuff in the knife. The Roman legion is almost within striking distance of camp half-blood. They're gathering reinforcements."

"Octavian," Reyna growls, "I told him to wait."

"He's intent on war," Annabeth says, "Hell have it unless we stop him."

"I had a dream a few weeks ago where I think I saw a possible future of camp half-blood. Pretty much everything was on fire and I saw tons of Roman and Greek bodies lying around. The weird part Gaea wasn't in it. She tidbit speak or even appear. I don't know if she actually sent me that dream," I say.

"So Reyna take the statue," Percy says, "And we can continue to Athens."

Leo shrugs, "Coll with me. But, uh, a few pesky logistical problems. We've got two weeks until the Roman feast day when Gaea is suppose to rise."

"The feast of Spes," Jason says.

"Any Pegasi close?" Asks Annabeth.

I concentrate, "none trained. To have enough to not only carry Reyna but the entire statue isn't the hard part. If I could take it they'd listen to me but they'd need to be more trained to listen to Reyna and we don't have time for that."

The group seems disheartened like that was their last idea.

"What about the labyrinth?" Asks Hazel, "if it's really open-"

"No," Percy, Annabeth, and I all said in unison. It was impressive frankly.

"For one thing the passages are to small for the statue," says Percy.

"And even if the maze has reopened ," Annabeth says, "we don't know what it'll be like now. It was dangerous before even under Daedalus's control, and he wasn't evil." Says Annabeth.

"Maybe your underground stranded could help, but you can't go because we need you here," I say.

We keep brainstorming ideas. We couldn't let any of the eight go.

"I'll go with Reyna," Nico says, "I can shadow travel."

"Uh, Nico," Percy starts, "I know you just got all nine of us out and that was awesome but a year ago just transporting yourself was dangerous."

"I've changed since I came back from Tartarus," Nico says. His eyes burn with hatred at my brother.

"Nico," I say, "we're not question you powers. We just want to make sure you don't kill yourself trying."

"I can do it," he insists, "I'll make short jumps- a few hundred miles each time. I won't be in any shape to fend off monsters. I'll need Reyna to defend me and the statue."

"Any objections?" Reyna asks.

No one spoke.

"Very well," Reyna says, "I see no better option. But there will be many monster attacks. I would feel better taking a third person."

"Coach Hedge!" Frank blurts.

"What Frank?" Asks Percy.

"Coach is the best choice," Frank says, "The only choice."

"A faun," Reyna says.

"Satyr!" Barks Coach, "And yeah I'll go. Besides you'll need my diplomatic skills to keep the Greeks from attacking you. Just let me make a call- er- grab my baseball bat."

Nico rose, "I should go too. Get some rest before the first passage. We'll meet at the statue at sunset."

Once he was gone Hazel frowns, "He's been acting weird lately."

"He'll be ok," I say.

Percy cocks his head at me and I wave him off.

"I hope you right," Hazel mumbles.

We sit under an awkward silence for a couple of minutes.

"One thing bothers me," Percy says.

"Just one?" I ask with smile.

"Shut up,"He says, "If the feast of Spes is in two weeks, and Gaea needs the blood of two demigods to wake. The blood of Olympus? Then aren't we doing exactly what Gaea wants, heading to Athens? If we don't go she can't sacrifice any of us."

"Percy, prophecies cut both ways,"Annabeth says, "If we don't go, we may lose our best chance to stop her. Athens is where our battle lies."

"Besides," I say, "You can't thwart prophecies. You know that, Percy. Gaea could capture us somewhere else or spill the blood of another demigod."

"Yeah, your right," Percy says to us, "I don't like it but your right."

The mood of the group became tense. There was a sort of gloom hanging over the group. Piper breaks the tension.

"Well!" She says, "Good picnic. Who wants dessert?"
