Nymphs and Tension

When we hit the deck of the ship a little more tar spills in us. Our clothes and hair was covered in it. We make our way down the hall. We see Hazel and Frank standing with Piper.

"Roofing tar?" Piper guesses.

"Ran into some tar monsters," I mumble, "hey Jason glad your awake. Hazel, where's Leo?"

"Engine room," hazel says.

Suddenly the entire ship shakes a little almost forcing Percy to spill the tar. Percy and Annabeth's first reaction was to look at me.

"It wasn't me this time. I swear," I say.

"Uh... we may have angered a few nymphs who live in this lake. Like... all of them," hazel says.

"Great," Percy says handing the bucket to frank, "pheebs and I will try and hold the off as long as we can. You guys help Leo."

Percy and I run and swan dive into the lake. The nymphs are furiously banging at the ship. Percy sends a funnel of water at them.

"I don't know why you wanted me down here. This isn't area of expertise," I say makings small blow of water at nymph.

"You can still do a little. The more help the better," he says.

We keep blasting until we were pinned back close to the boat.

"Abort!" Percy yells grabbing my waist and flinging is up onto the deck.

He kept the water moving pushing the nymphs away. I was keeping Coach Hedge from jumping in the lake to beat the nymphs with his bat. My brother brings up a quick wave hitting him and he goes flying back.

"Your gonna pay for that cupcake!" He yells at me.

My brother is laughing hysterically. Coach chases me around for a solid twenty minutes before the ship lifts off the ground. Coach finally stops running after me. Percy and I head down below deck to get changed.

After everyone was cleaned up coach hedge took the helm and the eight of us gathered below for dinner.

There was an awful tension hanging above our heads. It was worse when Percy and Jason tried to sit in the same spot at the head of the table. Jason literally let sparks fly. After a silent standoff the seat just went to Annabeth, and they sat at opposite sides of the table.

The crew compared notes on what had happened in Salt Lake City, but even Leo ridiculous story about about tricking Narcissus wasn't lightening up the mood.

"So where to now?" Leo asks with a mouthful of pizza, "I did a quick repair job to get us out of the lake, but there's still lots of damage. We should really put down again and fix things right before we head across the Atlantic."

I poke at my blue pie a little. Water isn't usually were I thrive so the amount of water work I did today has me exhausted. I'm pretty sure the only one who noticed though is Piper. She leans over.

"You good?" She asks.

"Yah, just tired," I say looking up from my plate.

"We need to put some distance between us and camp Jupiter," Percy says, "Frank spotted some eagles over Salt Lake City. We figured the Roman's weren't far behind us."

That didn't improve the mood.

"I don't suppose we could go back and reason with the Romans? Maybe- maybe I didn't try hard enough with the charmspeak," Piper says.

Jason grabs her hand and looks at her.

"It wasn't your fault pipes. Or Leo's. Whatever happened, it was Gaea's doing, to drive the camps apart," Jason says.

"Maybe we if we could explain that," Piper says.

"With no proof? And no idea what really happened? I appreciate what your saying Piper but I don't want these Roman's on our bad sides. Until we understand what we're up against going back is suicide," Annabeth says.

The conversation keeps going but I start to doze off. I lift my head quickly keeping myself from falling asleep.

"I've been seeing things in my knife," Piper says.

I had no idea where this conversation had gone honestly.

"Things such as...?" Frank says.

"They don't really make sense. Just garble images, but I saw two giants dressed alike. Maybe Phoebe and Percy aren't the twins. Maybe the giants are," Piper says.

I like that she said my name first. No one ever uses my name first.

"If we could figure out those line, it might help," Annabeth says.

"Wisdom's daughter walk alone. The mark of Athena burns through Rome. Annabeth that's got to mean you. Juno told me.... Well, she said you had a hard task ahead and she doubted you could do it. But I know she's wrong," Percy says.

I doze off a little again. I feel Piper shake my arm a little. She really was the only one who noticed how tired I was. I hadn't slept much the night before either.

"So...."Leo says pushing his chair away from the table, "First thing first, I guess. We'll have to put down in the morning to finish repairs."

"Somewhere close to a city, in case we need supplies. But somewhere out of the way, so the Romans can't find us," Annabeth says, "Any ideas?"

No one spoke up right away.

"Well how do you guys feel about Kansas?" Asks Piper.
