Aerwyna's POV:
I sat at my desk, bored out of my mind. I had the right idea when I was six. I never wanted to come to school. I really don't like it. I'm just glad summer is soon.
When school finally let out, I walked out to the driveway and looked for my dad's car. Earwyn always drops me off, but dad on Fridays, picks me up. Of course, I couldn't see him. He and mom probably ended up 'playing' and lost track of time.
"Is everything ok?" a voice from behind me asked.
I turned around and rolled my eyes. "Of course. Hello, Darnell."
He wasn't exactly one of my favorite people in the world. For one thing, a few times, he tried to make a pass at me when I was ten. And another thing, he always makes fun of my sister.
"What do you want?" I asked him sternly.
"Whoa! Calm down, Aer! Just wanted to ask if you were ok. You were just standing here not looking very happy." he answered.
"Look, Darnell, my name is not Aer. It's Aerwyna. And I am perfectly fine. Just might need a ride."
Darnell scratched the back of his neck and a little awkwardly said, "Y'know, if you need a ride, I could give you one. My dad just got me a brand new Porsche.."
I stared at him. "Hang on. Let me text my dad first," I said, annoyed. I quickly tried to text my dad, but he wasn't answering. I then tried mind-linking him. "Dad! Why aren't you answering?!" I exclaimed out loud.
"Hey! Calm down, Aer! It'll be fine. I'll just give you a ride to the pack house."
"Ugh! Fine. But don't call me Aer! The name is Aerwyna. For the thousandth time!"
Darnell nodded and walked me to his car. Darnell was one of your typical rich bad boy bullies. I don't like bad boys and I don't like bullies. Darnell gets everything he wants handed to him on a silver platter.
We rode in silence. I was not enjoying this. I don't like this boy at all and he's driving me home! Not to mention, I really have a weird feeling around him. Like, I don't know...
When we got home he smiled at me and waved. "See ya in school, dew drop!"
I stared at him as he drove away, stunned. Dew drop??...What in the world-?? I shook my head and went inside. "Mom! Dad! I'm home!" I called out.
"Hey, sea star! How was school?" my mom hugged me.
I shrugged. "Ok, I guess. Why didn't dad come to pick me up or answer my texts? He didn't even reply to my mind-link!"
"Your dad was called away suddenly." she answered.
"Where? What's going on, mom?" I asked.
"He didn't say. He just said that one of the neighboring packs needed his and Derrick's help."
"That's strange....Why didn't they ask for Uncle Ambrose as well?"
"I don't know, sweetheart. But your dad did say, that even if they did ask for Ambrose, he would have had him stay anyway to keep an eye on everyone."
"Meaning, you, me, Earwyn, and most likely, mainly Harmony." I stated, knowing my dad very well.
Mom laughed. "Yes, dear. He is very protective of his family."
"But Earwyn can protect himself and us if needed. And I can fight too. He said himself I am doing very well in my training. Doesn't he trust us?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen.
"No, sea star, he does trust you. And he trusts Earwyn. He's just worried. He knows Ambrose can handle being in charge and I can too. But your brother has never been in charge before."
"But if he was given the chance-"
"Calm down, Aerwyna. Your father knows what he's doing. He does what he thinks is best for the pack. Besides, one major thing you forgot about your brother recently." she told me as she went behind the counter and pulled out a jar of peanut butter.
"What is it mom?" I asked.
"He found his mate. And you know how he's been recently. He spends all his time with her. I think I can expect his grades to be failing when I receive his report card. All he thinks about, is Dawn. Which is normal for people who have just found their mate. He'll eventually go back to....semi-normal. I mean, he won't ever be the same, but he'll always have a place for his family."
I nodded and took the sandwich mom had made me. I shrugged. She was right I suppose. And to be honest, if Dawn isn't in the car, Earwyn kinda scares me with his driving...
As I ate, mom asked me about mine and Harmony's birthday. "I know you've talked about it. What have you decided?"
"Well, we were thinking about a beach birthday. With a chocolate cake shaped like a seashell. And purple icing. And we all can dress in some beachy clothes," I answered.
"Alright, I'll tell Leah and Louise. We will get right to work. Oh, perhaps you, Harmony, Kamilia, and Delia would like to go shopping? I don't know about Delia or Kamilia, but you and your sister need new summer dresses. Some nice ones that you can wear at the beach and play in if you want this kind of party." mom replied.
I nodded and told her I'd tell Harmony and ask if the girls wanted to come shopping. "Make sure you at least bring Jack, too." she said.
"Yes, ma'am." I remarked. Jack is Delia's twin brother. He's practically as good as I am in fighting. Mom is pretty protective too. But I think it's mainly because Harmony is going to be with us.
When I finished my sandwich, I went upstairs to my room. "Hey, little sis. What's up?" I asked when I walked in.
Harmony was sitting on her bed with her back to me. When she heard my voice, she turned and smiled at me. I think she wanted to say something, but nothing came out. I sat beside her and hugged her. Lately, she'd been having more trouble than usual with her speech.
"It's alright, Harmony. Everything is going to be ok...I promise." She nodded at me. "Come on, let's go to the beach and play guess the sea creature." She nodded enthusiastically and ran after me down the stairs and out the door.
