147. Axel

Axel is a British accented, medium sized, teenage coywolf-fox hybrid and a friend of Kaida. He has light blue and white fur with black paws and tipped tail. His right eye is red and his left eye is dark brown. 

Axel is first seen startling Kaida on Terra Amazonia after appearing as a dark shadowy figure. After revealing himself, Kaida almost immediately befriends him. Over the course of season 1, Kaida has been seeing Axel in secret, fearing if anyone saw him, he would be killed. Despite his frightening appearance, Axel is calm, energetic, friendly, and encouraging. He reveals that his pack was killed by human hunters, not cyclonians (like Kaida originally thought). His mother snuck him into a crate before she was killed. The crate fell on Terra Amazonia where he lived his life alone. Nearing season 1's finale, Kaida expresses concern about raiding Cyclonia (The Storm Hawks and others were kidnapped). Seeing how worried she was about facing her father again, Axel offers Kaida and her pets to stay with him. He states if she was rejected by her friends and father just because of who she chooses to be doesn't make her bad and that he would always accept her for who she is. Kaida refuses Axel's offer but thanks him, saddening the canine. Axel appears several other times to offer Kaida advice. When Celeste dies, Axel secretly attends her funeral and pulls Kaida aside afterwards. He decides to join the Skyhawks to support Kaida. 

Kaida is Axel's best friend. It's theorized he has romantic feelings for Kaida by the loving looks he gives her and unconditional support. He even joins the Skyhawks just to be closer to her!

Axel isn't seen interacting with anyone other than Kaida but after joining the Skyhawks, everyone seems to take an interest in him.

Axel is on friendly terms with Kaida's pets.

Trivia:

Axel's appearance is similar to King, the evil wolf leader and Fei Fei.

His name means "Father is Peace", but he states he calls himself Axel, because it was a cool strong name.

Before meeting the Skyhawks, it's implied that everyone was aware of Kaida's friendship with Axel but thought he was her imaginary friend.

Thea: "Wait, Axel's actually real?"

Kaida: "You said you believed me."

Rodion: "We did. Now we really believe you."

Axel is also thought to be a reincarnation of Kai or Jay.

He is the first animal side character to be introduced.

He enjoys eating blueberries.

Axel states one of his great-grandfathers was part dire wolf.

He is voiced by Joey Batey.
