It's been three months since Kylo attacked you.

Two months since he came back from hunting the scavenger— which you've since learned that her name is Rey— and tried to apologize.

A month and a half since you responded by moving into your own room.

A month since you stopped talking to each other.

Two weeks since he left to finish his mission.

One week since the the last contact from him.

One day since he was brought in with no heartbeat.

One hour since you were finally allowed to see him.

And here you are, sitting next to the bed, keeping his alarmingly warm hand in yours.

While he's naturally a warm person, the heat he's radiating isn't normal.

"Lady Ren, you must rest. It is not good for the baby," the medical droid advises.

"I'll sleep when he wakes up," you reply, not moving your eyes from his face. Every passing minute, the fear that he won't wake up takes root in your soul.

All you want is to tell him is that while you don't forgive him for what he did, you still love him. You can't imagine a day— a universe— where you don't.

"You are due anytime. You need to be ready," a new voice says. You turn around and see General Hux standing in the doorway.

You know Hux hates Kylo. It's obvious. But, oddly enough, Hux doesn't hate you. Maybe it's because you've been nothing but nice to him, or because you're supposedly causing Kylo pain by ignoring him, but he has been there for you throughout your issues with Kylo.

"I am ready," you lie. In reality, you're not. You're far from it— especially if Kylo isn't awake for it.

"Lady Ren, I must urge to you rest," Hux sighs.

"Bring me a blanket and a pillow and I will rest right here." Hux says nothing for a moment, but you can feel him behind you.

"Is there no convincing you to sleep in a real bed?" You say nothing. "I will have a blanket brought to you."

As soon as Hux leaves the room, Kylo's hand twitches in yours. Your head shoots up, watching in painful relief as his eyes flutter open. He looks around in confusion for a moment, before his eyes meet yours.

"(Y/N)?" You let out something between a laugh and a sob.

"I'm here," you assure, squeezing his hand. You watch the wheels turn in his head as he pieces together what happened.

"I failed."

"It doesn't matter. What matters is that you're alive."

"This is something I cannot fail!" You flinch at his outburst, removing your hand from his. Before he attacked you, him raising is voice didn't bother you as much. In fact, you would be the one to reel him in. But now, it brings back the memory of his hand around your neck.

"I'm sorry," you mumble, folding your hands in your lap.

"(Y/N)," he whispers, his voice cracking. You look up, surprised as a tear falls from his eye.

In the next moment, he's on his feet. He stumbles, and you're barely out of your seat in time to steady him. The moment he has his footing, you step back. You watch his chest heave, his breaths coming out in short stutters. As he turns to look at you, you look away.

"You shouldn't be up," you say quietly.

"(Y/N), look at me," he pleads. You do. His chin trembles for a moment before he takes a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I should have never— I never wanted to— fuck!" He grabs his hair out of frustration.

"I know."

"I need you to know that I will never forgive myself for laying a hand on you in that way. I love you, (Y/N)."

"Kylo," you whisper.

"You are the light I should not want, but the light I need." He steps closer to you tentatively, and you don't move away. "I need you."

"And I need you," you whisper, raising your hand to cup his cheek. He exhales, his eyes falling shut at your touch. "It will take awhile to put this behind me. I trust you know that." He nods, keeping his eyes closed. "But I cannot raise our child alone. And I cannot live a life without you in it, as unbearable as you make it at times." His lips twitch, and he turns his head to kiss the palm of your hand.

"You make me a better man, (Y/N)," he sighs. "And I will love our child with every fiber of my being. I will give it the galaxy, (Y/N). It will want for nothing, and neither will you." You smile softly at him.

"All I want is you." He finally opens his eyes, a calm and serenity present in them that you haven't seen in a long time.

"Then that is what you get."
