You were there the night Sam found Bella in the woods. You didn't know what happened, but you knew that your girlfriend, Alice, wasn't picking up. You found it odd because Alice always answered her phone. You were getting worried, but you had no choice but to follow your uncle and cousin upstairs.
And that's when you learned that the Cullens left.
That Alice left without so much of a goodbye.
In the months that followed, you did slightly better than Bella, still trying to keep up a social life as to not make Uncle Charlie worry about another person.
Charlie knew you were hurting, too, but you covered it up so well that he didn't know how to broach the subject with you. You were grateful that he struggled with it because you didn't know if you could handle talking about it out loud.
On the nights that Bella had night terrors, you were the one to comfort her, because only you truly knew what she was going through.
Soon, though, Bella found an escape through Jacob. You were happy she did, because even she was starting to worry you, but you couldn't help but feel a little resentment that she found a saving grace while you were left to suffer in silence.
"(Y/N), you okay?" Charlie asks. You look up from the same page you'd been reading for the past fifteen minutes and force a smile.
"Fine. Just trying to grasp intermolecular forces," you answer, holding up your chemistry book.
"Now that's not something I can help with," Charlie says. You go back to reading, trying to get your eyes to take in the words laid out across the page. "Hey, I'm going to join the hunting party for the wolves. Whenever Bella comes back, tell her that's where I went."
"Okay."
"I love you, kiddo," Charlie says, planting a kiss on the top of your head.
"Love you too, Uncle Charlie," you say as he leaves the house. You sigh, closing your boom and shutting your eyes.
You wish you could sleep, but since Alice left, you haven't been able to without the help of medication, and you haven't been taking it in order to help Bella with her night terrors. Coffee practically runs in your bloodstream now.
You don't know how much time has passed, but soon your phone rings. You look at the caller ID and answer, concerned.
