Before you joined the team, Hotch was still withdrawn from losing his ex wife, Hailey. They worried about him even though he put on a tough face.

When you joined, though, that all changed.

He became more willing to converse with the team, join them for after work activities, and was just happier in general.

So, to say they were surprised when they found out that you two had been going out would be a lie.

You are both very professional people, but that doesn't stop the two of you from subtly romancing each other. Your team has picked up the moments that you do, and though they relentlessly tease you for it, they secretly love witnessing it.

You'd been with Aaron Hotchner for four and a half years. They've been the happiest four and a half years of your life. Getting to wake up next to Aaron everyday is a blessing, and his son Jack is just as much of a reason to smile as any.

Together, you both learned how to balance family and work. After almost five years, you wanted nothing more than to walk down the aisle to Aaron's waiting arms, exchange 'I do's' and waltz off into your chaotic sunset.

But he was taking it very slow. You understood—he didn't have the best track record with marriage— though it wasn't just his fault. You don't blame Hailey. She was doing what she felt was right for her and Jack at the time, which had to be hard. You commend her for that, and you're sure she was a fantastic woman. The difference between you and her is that know that you can withstand the work pressure that he brings him because you have the same job, and know exactly how it feels.

You try to be patient, to let him do things in his own time, but you feel it's time to take the next step.

"Hey, Aaron?" you call from the bedroom.

"Yeah?"

"Could you come here?" You hear him get up from the couch and walk to the bedroom, his shirt hugging him tightly. Despite the conversation you're about to have, you can't help but take a quick peek at him.

"What's wrong?" he asks, noticing your apprehensive expression.

"I..." you trail off, second guessing your decision to talk to him. Maybe you should leave it alone.

"You know you can tell me anything," he presses gently, sitting next to you. You take a deep breath, turning to face him.

"I wanna get married," you blurt. He doesn't say anything, but you notice him freeze. "To you." He opens his mouth to respond, but then closes it and sighs.

"(Y/N), you know I love you," he starts. You break eye contact and look at your intertwined hands, knowing where this is going.

"Never mind," you mumble, standing and making your way to the kitchen.
