You sit up in bed, breathing heavily. You look around wildly, relieved to find yourself in your own bed and not at the bottom of the astronomy tower.

It was all too realistic. Finding out James wasn't your soulmate, going to the library to search for answers on what to do if that happens, jumping.

You lay back down and close your eyes, taking deep breaths. It's just soulmate jitters. It's always in the back of one's mind that your soulmate doesn't match with you, it's just manifesting as a hyperrealistic nightmare.

After a few more words of encouragement, you fall asleep.

You plop down in between Sirius and Remus at breakfast, rubbing your face.

You got James, no surprise, but last night's nightmare has you shaken to the point where you can't muster any amount of joy.

"What's wrong, (Y/N/N)?" Sirius asks, throwing his arm over your shoulder. You lean into him and close your eyes.

"Just had a nightmare last night. No biggie."

"Well, they're serving omelettes," he whispers. You immediately perk up and grab one, a smile forming. He pokes your cheek playfully. "There's the smile," he sings.

"Stop it, Padfoot," you complain. He chuckles and eats his omelette as well. You manage to choke down your omelette in record time, finishing just as James sits in front of you, a weird look on his face. He covers it up when your eyes meet and you grin.

"Who'd you get, Potter?" You grin.

"I got Lily! Can you believe it?"

Your throat catches and you drop your fork. You barely have time to cover it with a cough.

"Whoa, you okay?" Remus asks from your left. You nod, covering up your tears with fake coughs.

"Fine, Remus. Don't forget we have a Potions essay due today," you call as you leave. You don't even go to the library to look for answers.

Instead, you go straight for the Astronomy Tower.

You drop your bag and pace, letting tears ruin your half-assed makeup.

"It was a bloody vision," you mumble to yourself. You'd never had visions before, but from what you understand, they're very real in the wizarding world. They're about as rare as you and your soulmate not matching.

You slide down the wall, your tears running dry. You stare at the spiral stairwell, praying you have a little more time to breathe before you have to—

You cut your thoughts off, refusing to think about what you have to do until it's time. You walk to the edge of the Astronomy Tower and look out over the grounds, letting your feet dangle off the edge. You don't know how long you sit there before you hear feet pounding on the metal staircase. You blink the world back into focus and see that the stars are shining.
