It's been seven months since the love of your life was murdered. Since then, you've moved out of your shared apartment and moved to Oregon to open the bookstore you've always wanted to.
It hurt too much to stay in a place where everything reminded you of Emily. Every coffee shop, store, and park bench reminded you of what you lost.
You still keep in contact with the team, especially Garcia. Throughout all this, she's been the one to keep you on your feet, refusing to let you shut down and waste away. Even though you now live three thousand miles away from each other, she still makes sure you're doing okay, and you try to get together once every month if possible.
Right on cue, your phone rings. You see Garcia's contact pop up, and you look at Amber, your oldest employee.
"I have to take this, but I'll be right back. Can you hold down the fort?"
"Yep! Sure can," she smiles. You walk to the back, answering the call.
"Hey, Pen!"
"(Y/N), I need you to sit down," she says. Your stomach drops, and you slowly sit in the fold-out chair.
"Penelope, please tell me nothing bad happened to anyone," you plead. You don't know if you could take anything else.
"No, no. Actually, a miracle happened. Are you at work?"
"I am. Please tell me what's going on."
"I- I can't tell you. But you'll find out in a few minutes. Just keep an open mind, and remember I love you."
"Pen—"
"I have to go. I love you."
"I love you, too," you reply, confused. The phone call ends, and you stare at the lock screen of you, Emily, and Sergio.
"Hey, (Y/N)? There's someone here to see you," Amber says, peeking around the tarp separating the back from the store.
"I'll be right out," you answer, trying to calm your racing heart. After a moment, you straighten your clothes and take a deep breath. "Hi, can I help you?" you question, walking toward the woman.
She doesn't turn around for a moment, but when she does, you freeze.
"Oh, my God," you whisper. "Emily?"
"Hi, (Y/N)," she smiles hesitantly. You step forward to throw yourself at her, but stop yourself.
"Hey, Amber, I'm going to head home early. You got this?" You don't move your eyes from Emily, but you can feel Amber's concern and confusion radiating from her.
"Yeah, I got this. I'll text you the summary later."
"Thanks. See you tomorrow."
You move behind the counter, grab your coat and purse, and walk out of your store, not bothering to see if Emily is following you.
