You screaminto your pillow before pulling yourself together and walking downstairs and into the parlor room. You sit on the couch by the fireplace and open a book that will hopefully give you a clue as to where Klaus may be. You scan the pages, looking for keywords.
"Are you still reading these things? It's three in the morning," a voice speaks from behind you. You don't even turn around, giving a shrug as your response. "(Y/N), you need to go to bed."
"I can't. We have to find Klaus in order to save Elena." You inwardly groan. The things you do for this girl. You'd honestly just let her die if she didn't mean so much to Damon and Stefan. She strings them along like Squirmles.
"What are you thinking about?" Damon asks, walking over to the couch and sitting beside you.
"Nothing of importance. You know my mind wanders to useless places." You smile at him before going back to reading. He takes the book out of your hands and puts it on the coffee table. "Hey!" you exclaim. He grins and helps you up.
"Let's relax, alright? We can do this in the morning." You open my mouth to point out that it is morning but he gives you a look that shuts you up. You sigh.
"Fine. I'll go to bed, then." He grabs your wrist gently.
"Why don't you just have a drink with me?" You think about all the things that could go wrong. You could embarrass yourself, you could drunkenly spill you feelings, you could piss him off by expressing your dislike for Elena. His eyes keep you from saying no, though. You relent and sit back on the couch as he pours the both of you a glass of scotch.
"Thanks," you mumble as you take the glass. You sip on it, not wanting to get drunk. For being around a vampire who constantly gets you to drink, you're a horrible lightweight. He grins at you and downs half of his.
"Why are you nursing it?"
"Because I don't want to get drunk. We have to research in the morning and a hangover isn't going to help." He sets his glass down and looks pointedly at you.
"Why are you so hell-bent on helping? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy you are, but doing this isn't healthy for you. What's going on?" You set your glass down as well and lean back on the couch, trying to sort out your thoughts.
"Because I know how much Elena means to you and Stefan. I love you both, and I know you both love her, so I feel obligated to protect her for you guys. I don't know if that makes sense but-"
"(Y/N), of course, we care about Elena. But I don't love her. Stefan does." You furrow your eyebrows.
"I thought you loved her?" He shakes his head and smiles.
"No. I did. But then I met someone." You look at the fireplace.
"What's her name?" You ask, your eyes not leaving the flames.
"(Y/N)," he states, sipping his scotch nonchalantly. Your head snaps back to look at his face.
"What?"
"It's you." You sit there, trying to wrap your head around what he's saying.
"Seriously?" you ask. He rolls his eyes and stands up, walking toward you. He yanks you off of the couch and connects his lips to yours. You get over the shock quickly and kiss him back passionately. You pull away after what feels like years. Your foreheads rest against the other and he looks into your eyes, his breath fanning over your face.
"I'm in love with you, (Y/N). I have been since you punched me in the face for scaring you while cooking eggs," he grins. You laugh breathlessly and kiss him again.
