You never thought you'd be in love, let alone with Leia Organa.
For the longest time, you thought it was once sided. You were her advisor, and she was your princess. It never would have happened, even in your wildest dreams. It was professional in public, and friendly behind closed doors.
You were fine with it, because duty came before your personal feelings as much as you wish it didn't.
On one particularly uneventful day, you were back home on Alderaan taking care of business for Leia when you got a short, cryptic warning from an officer aboard the Tantive IV before he went dark. You took as many people as you could and got them on ships, ready to leave the planet. You weren't sure what was going to happen, but the garbled yet panicked words of the officer were clear-- death was coming.
You knew you wouldn't be able to save everyone on the planet, as much as you wanted to try. All you could do was grab the people closest to you and exit the planet, shooting off into space.
You wish you didn't know the fate of your home planet, but you caught a glimpse of the destruction just before you entered lightspeed.
You were numb for a few days, knowing that the only reason the Empire would do it to Alderaan was if they had Leia. You hoped that she was alive and could stay alive until you figured out a way to get to her.
You had the ships meet at Yavin 4, knowing it would be the safest place for the people you managed to get off the planet, and the only place you could find people to help lead a rescue mission for Leia.
You step off the ship, helping the other passengers off to meet with waiting Resistance members.
"General," you greet anxiously as he approaches.
"Ma'am. How did you get these people off? How did you know?" he asks.
"Officer Inek sent me a warning before he went dark," you inform. "I fear Princess Leia is in danger. We must find out where she is being held and rescue her."
"There's no need. She arrived on a ship with two men, a Wookie, and two droids yesterday." You unwillingly let out a long breath, your proper posture relaxing slightly.
"That's good news," you understate. He looks at you knowingly, but says nothing else.
"She is in the planning room if you wish to see her."
You smile politely and quickly take off in the direction of the planning room, eager to see her safe with your own eyes. You slow your steps, smoothing down your dress as you walk in. Your eyes land on her, and you let out a quiet breath. Your heart aches at how sad she looks, and it dawns on you she must have seen the destruction of Alderaan, much like you.
"Princess Leia," you call, stepping into the room further. She turns around, her eyes widening as she looks at you.
"(Y/N)? You're alive?" she asks, her voice uncharacteristically fragile. You smile slightly.
"I am, as are around a hundred other citizens. Officer Inek managed to get me a message before he--"
Her body colliding with yours cuts you off, and it takes you a moment to realize she's hugging you. You return the hug, caught off guard by the show of affection. She grips you tighter, her face buried in your neck. You let yourself go, melting into her arms as you hold each other.
"I've never been so happy to see you," she says into your neck. "I thought you..."
"I'm here, Your Majesty," you assure. She pulls away, searching your eyes.
"Call me Leia."
"But that's--"
Once again, you're cut off, but this time by her lips on yours.
It takes you a shorter amount of time to recover, and soon you're kissing her back, pulling her impossibly closer.
You're not sure how much time has passed, and you honestly can't care less. All you know is that the woman you love is alive and is kissing you.
You both pull away, and a bright smile graces her features.
"That was unexpected," you admit, a smile making its way onto your face.
"It was," she agrees, "but long overdue."
"Permission to speak freely?"
"Always."
"You're damn right it was."
She laughs, cupping your cheek, her eyes roaming yours.
"I love you."
"Really?" you whisper, still shocked.
"Was the kiss too subtle?" she asks cheekily.
"I don't know, you may have to try and make your point again," you reply.
She obeys, and despite what's going on and the danger that's bound to come knocking on your door, everything feels right.
