You look down at Roxy, smiling at how excited she is to see Luke. You know he missed her just as much, having been gone for nearly a week on a case. You hope dogs are allowed on the premises, otherwise this is about to be a very nasty visit.
As the elevator doors ding open, you struggle to keep Roxy in check. You walk through the glass doors, smiling at a tired Luke. He looks up, confusion morphing into surprise, and then a smile. His smile widens when he sees Roxy barely containing herself at your feet.
"Roxy!" he exclaims tiredly, dragging himself out of his chair and toward you and the dog. He kneels down, letting Roxy kiss him repeatedly. You smile at their exchange. He stands and pulls you in for a quick hug. "I wasn't expecting you until tomorrow."
"Well, classes ended early, so I decided to pop in early."
"I'm glad you did. It's good to see you."
"You, too, Luke."
"I'm not surprised to see that you took advantage of the house key, either."
"Why else did you give it to me?" you question. You look around the office, admiring how large it is. "Nice setup."
"It is pretty nice."
"You're happy here?"
"Very much so. Everyone is great."
"Good. I'd have to beat them up otherwise." Luke laughs and ruffles your hair like he did when you were kids.
"I know."
"Luke! You forgot the paperwork for..." the voice trails off and you turn around to see a spunkily dressed woman with thick rimmed glasses and a gorgeous smile. "Hi."
"Hi," you reply, looking between Luke and the woman.
"Oh, sorry, (Y/N). (Y/N), this is Penelope Garcia, our tech analyst. Garcia, this is my best friend, (Y/N)."
"Nice to meet you," you smile, holding out your hand. She takes it and you shake, ignoring the sparks that travel up your arm.
"You, too. I'm sorry for interrupting."
"Oh, you didn't interrupt anything," you assure. "I was just reuniting these two."
"Oh, Roxy!" Penelope exclaims, kneeling down before her. Roxy graces her with a kiss, and Penelope smiles up at you and Luke. "She's the only reason I keep Luke around."
"Oh, that's it," Luke replies, though there's no mistaking the adoration in his voice. Your heart sinks, realizing that Luke likes Penelope.
Well, there goes your plans to try and make a move on the pretty blonde.
