You're not a Rebel. You're not First Order. You're in the grey area. The middle, if you will. You would think being the adopted "daughter" of Luke Skywalker would push you to the Light, but you've seen too much borderline evil on the Light and too much good on the Dark.

The good you speak of is Kylo Ren.

Your father doesn't know you're in contact with him, let alone that you, the goody two-shoes, are in love with his former prodigy. He's struggling to find his place, the pull of the Light strong from Han and Leia, the pull of the Dark strong thanks to Supreme Leader Snoke.

You, personally, lean toward the Light more than the Dark, but you don't belong to either. Luke knows this and frankly, he doesn't care. You think he's just happy you're not on the Dark side completely. You sit on your bed in the hut, looking at your Lightsaber. You unleash it, the white light of the blade contrasting the darkness of the hut. You put it back in your holster and walk outside to start you workout.

"(Y/N), where are you going?" Luke asks. You look at the man who raised you and point at the mountain.

"Workout," you respond. He nods and goes back to conversing with Rey.

Rey is cool. Sure, she can be really testy but she's all-around decent. You sense her struggle with which side as well, but you have confidence that she'll inevitably stay with the Light. You continue to make your way up the mountain before you come to the edge, overlooking the water beating harshly against the rocks.

Living on Ahch-To is peaceful. Sometimes too peaceful. So, when the wind picks up, ruffling the islands perfect feathers, it's exhilarating. Before you're about to stretch, you feel a presence behind be. Not just physically, but through the Force as well. You smile and turn around, coming face to face with Kylo. Without thinking, you throw your arms around him. He doesn't hesitate to wrap his arms around your waist.

"You're here," you mumble into his neck. He lets out a deep chuckle.

"I told you I would be." You pull away and smile up at him.

"How did you get here?" He turns and points down to the rocky beach. There sits a comfortable looking spacecraft. "Ah, makes sense." He smiles softly at you, a rare feature not many get to see.

"Have you been talking with Rey?" Kylo asks suddenly. You can't help the pang of jealousy that runs through your veins. You know they have a deep connection, you're just not sure how deep it runs. Nor do you want to know.

"Yes. She seems nice. Annoying at times, but funny." Kylo rolls his eyes.

"Can convince you to spy for me? See what she's up to?" Now it's your turn to roll your eyes.

"Kylo, you know I'm neutral on pretty much everything." He sighs and looks out at the sea.

"It was worth a try." You shake your head, the wind whipping your hair around wildly. "I can contact her. Through the Force," he reveals. You look up at him, startled.

"What?" He runs a hand through his untamed hair.

"I don't quite understand it myself," he admits. You step away a little bit, your heart sad. His connection to Rey runs deeper than you thought. Deeper than yours. Although you are purely platonic, you can't help but feel a bit betrayed. "What's wrong?" Kylo asks. You wave your hand dismissively.

"It's nothing," you ensure. He sighs and turns you to face him.

"Talk to me. We've known each other long enough to confide in one another, (Y/N)." You look away from his eyes.

"You can see into my mind. You don't need me to talk to you," you argue. He lays his hands on your shoulders gently.

"(Y/N), I will not take what you aren't willing to give. I care for you too much to hurt you like that." You turn to look into his eyes and see nothing but the truth.

"I know. I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"Falling in love with you," you blurt out. His features morph from concerned to surprise. "I know it's wrong. I know we can't, even if you felt the same. But I feel that you and Rey have something special. Something you and I don't and could never share. Despite how I feel, you must do what is right, what the Force pulls you to do. And I have a sneaking suspicion that it is not me the Force wants you to fight for," you ramble. You pull out of his loose grasp, step back, and clear your throat.

"(Y/N)..." You smile sadly.

"It's okay, Kylo. You should get back to base. I need to continue training." You turn around to start your run but his voice stops you.

"You." You stop, not turning around. "Not Rey. Never Rey. It's you that I love, that the Force draws me to. Just you," he says, his voice so soft, so vulnerable, that it sends a wave of anxiety through you. You turn around and look at his, for once, uncertain stance.

Before your brain can catch up with your heart, you rush to him and press your lips to his. He stumbles back before pulling you closer to him, kissing you passionately. You pull back, your foreheads resting together. You keep your eyes close, relishing in the feeling of being so close.

"Look at me." You open your eyes and look into his, his breath fanning over your face. "Don't ever doubt my love for you, (Y/N)." You smile softly and kiss him again.

"How can I now when you've made it abundantly clear?" you tease. He laughs softly before pulling you to him in a warm but firm embrace. You stand there, holding each other while looking off into the distance, ignoring the crazy universe that you live in, just focusing on the other's breathing.

Maybe something pure can come from the chaos of a tangled galaxy.
