Hunting is dangerous. Hunting when there's an army of Grounders getting ready to attack at any time? Even more dangerous.
The only reason you're out here hunting is because you're unusually good with a bow and arrow. If it were up to Bellamy, you wouldn't be out here at all. But, since your survival is relying on having enough energy to fight, he doesn't really have a choice.
"Stick close to me, (Y/N)," Bellamy orders. You don't bother reminding him that you can take care of yourself. He knows, he just needs some peace of mind. You nod, moving closer to him to show you'll actually listen to him this time. "Only use your spears. Save the bullets for the Grounders." A chorus of acknowledgments sounds from the rest of the hunting party.
"Please be careful," your older brother, Finn, says. He pulls you in for a quick hug that you return.
"I will don't worry." He looks over your head and fixes his eyes firmly on Bellamy.
"Don't let anything happen to (Y/N)." Bellamy takes your hand.
"You know I won't." You sigh and look between the boys.
"I'm not a child. Let's go," you say to Bellamy, dragging him past the wall and out into the open. The other people with you include Monroe, Miller, Bree, Jones, and Sterling. You stay as quiet as possible, methodically avoiding sticks and extra crunchy leaves. Bellamy holds a branch out of the way for you and you smile in thanks. He passes it carefully to Jones who then holds it for the other four.
You keep your ears and eyes peeled for any movement, Grounder or otherwise. You hold your hand up to stop the group and point wordlessly to a boar crunching on some berries. Bellamy lays a hand on your shoulder and you pull out your bow. You turn to the others and point at Monroe and Jones, gesturing them off to the left. They move off to the left to get the boar if you miss or it runs before you can get a shot in. Sterling and Bree go off to the right in case it flees the other way.
You look to Bellamy and he nods, giving you the go-ahead to shoot. You pull the string back, aiming the arrow at the boar's head. You close your eyes, breathing deeply.
Don't miss. You can't afford to.
You let the arrow fly and watch with bated breath, only releasing it when it hits its target. The boar makes little to no noise and falls to the ground. It twitches for a few seconds before going still.
"Good job, (Y/N)," Bellamy praises. You beam at him, soaking in the pride in his eyes directed towards you. You all meet at the boar, the others patting you on the back. Bellamy ties rope around the boar's back legs and starts to drag it back to camp.
"If we see any other animals on the way back, should we go for those, too?" Bree asks. Bellamy nods.
"The more food, the better," you confirm. You continue back the way you came, still looking for more food. You hear a rustle to your left and your hand goes to the dagger at your hip. You wait, ignoring Monroe's inquisitive look. You shrug at her and start to walk again, but the gleam of metal stops you in your tracks.
