You sit on the couch, waiting anxiously for your husband to get home from work. You don't know how he'll react, especially since you've never talked about it before. You know he's not entirely keen on the idea, but you're hoping he'll change his mind.
The door unlocks, and you stand, keeping the bundle close to your chest. David walks in, his eyes immediately finding yours. You smile brightly, trying to hide your nervousness.
"Hello, my darling," you muse, walking over to him and kissing him. He returns the kiss, pulling away when you shift nervously.
"What's wrong?" he asks slowly. Your smile turns from bright to shy as you hold out your arms, the blanket in them wiggling. His eyebrows raise as he carefully moves the blanket aside, revealing a squirming grey kitten. "No."
"David—"
"Absolutely not. You know my stance on cats."
"Yes, but I saw him on the side of the road! It was pouring and the poor thing was soaked. I couldn't just leave him there!" you protest.
"Take it to a shelter," David dismisses. You frown, holding the kitten close. Its purrs sound past the blanket, causing you to smile down at it.
"I want to keep him. I'll change his litter-box, make sure he's up to date on shots and take him to all of his vet appointments. I promise I'll take care of him."
"No, (Y/N)."
"You know what? I love you, but I'm not taking no for an answer." David sets his coat on the chair and turns around, surprised by your deadpan tone. "Do you have any idea how lonely it is when you're on a case?" you question. "Books can only provide so much comfort, David."
David's expression softens, and he walks over to you, taking your face in his hands gently.
"I know, cara mia. I'm sorry." He looks down at the kitten sleeping soundly in your arms and sighs. "Okay. You can keep him. But make sure it doesn't mess up the house too much." You squeal and snuggle into David's side.
"Thank you! Thank you!" David chuckles and kisses the side of your head. "Asher and I greatly appreciate it." David pulls away.
"You already named it?" he asks, exasperated. You look up at him innocently.
"It suits him," you pout. David looks down at the kitten and sighs.
"I guess it does." He looks closer, and rolls his eyes. "You bought it a collar, too? How sure were you that I would say yes?"
"I wasn't sure at all," you admit, "but I figured that if you did, it was one less thing to worry about." David chuckles and shakes his head.
"You, my love, are ridiculous." You grin.
"Yes, but it's why you love me," you sing.
"One of the many reasons," he replies. "I'm going to shower and then we can watch James Bond." You kiss his jaw, ushering him to the bathroom.
A little too late, you remember which bathroom you put the litter-box in.
"(Y/N)!"

Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When you're in love, oh my how they fly
