You should've gotten out while you had the chance. If you had, you wouldn't be in the situation you are now— facing the man you've fallen in love with on the wrong side of the war.
"(Y/N), what are you doing?" Finn asks, a tone of disbelief in his voice. You shut down your emotions.
You believe in the First Order.
You believe in what you're fighting for.
Even though you don't, and the last thing you want to do is fight for them.
But your sister's life is on the line, meaning your morals are void.
"My job," you reply, your voice devoid of any emotion. You can tell Finn doesn't recognize you— emotionless, dead. And he wouldn't, since he knows the happy, loyal you.
You don't know which one is truly you anymore.
"But you..." Finn trails off, examining your face. You stare back, letting the anger you have for the First Order fill your gaze. Finn, as you wanted, mistakes it for anger against him and the Resistance. "You really had me fooled."
"That's the point," you snap, holding your blaster toward him.
"You'd kill me?"
"I'd kill any one of you," you lie.
In reality, you plan on injuring anyone who gets in your way, knowing that since you sold out the rebel base, your job here is done. All you need to do is make it out alive, and hope General Hux keeps good on his word and lets your sister go.
"I can't let you do that," Finn says, his face hardening into acceptance.
"I wish we'd met under better circumstances," you admit, "because then we might have a chance."
"Unlikely." Finn raises the lightsaber you hadn't realized he had, and you fire toward his shoulder. He blocks it, racing toward you. As he swings it at you, you duck and roll, ignoring the searing heat of the ashes on Yavin 4 on your skin.
"How about we go our separate ways?" you question, standing.
"You won't stop," Finn says, stalking closer to you. "You'll go back to the First Order to help them keep the galaxy suppressed. I can't let you leave."
You put aside your feelings for him, knowing that you have to make it off Yavin 4 alive in order to keep your sister safe. You steel yourself, tightening your grip on your blaster.
"So be it."
You fire repeatedly at Finn, hoping one of them hits so you can get away. But, to your surprise, he blocks them all. Seeing no other option, you jump over debris, heading toward a grounded fighter so you can get in the air.
Just as you're about to reach the fighter, a sharp, hot pain stops you in your tracks. You look down, the blaster hole in your chest steaming. You drop to your knees, knowing this is the end.
You failed.
You failed Finn.
You failed your sister.
You failed yourself.
You let yourself fall to the ground, gasping for air. You hope death comes swiftly, though you know that with the things you'd done, you deserve nothing but to suffer.
Finn's face comes into view, a pained expression on his face.
"I'm sorry," he says.
"Me, too," you breathe. Finn kneels next to you, tears falling from his eyes. "I know- I know I don't deserve it but please do something for me."
"What?"
"Find my sister. The First..." you trail off, desperate to grasp onto what life you have. "The First Order has her." Finn's face falls.
"You did this for your sister?" You nod painfully. "Why didn't you just tell us? We would've helped!"
"I was scared," you whisper, your vision starting to fade.
"Okay, stay with me, (Y/N). We're gonna get you help and we're gonna save your sister."
"Promise me," you order, gripping his hand as best you can. "Save her."
Finn chokes out a sob, nodding. "I promise."
You let out a painful breath, wishing things had been different. You wish you'd trusted him more, believed his words that you could've saved her without having to sell out your friends.
But you know the First Order. They would've killed you, everyone on Yavin 4, and then your sister.
"For what it's worth, I truly do love you," you whisper, smiling softly. Finn kisses your forehead, and you faintly feel is tears fall onto your forehead.
"I love you, too."
And, with a soul still drowning in pain, you fade into oblivion.
