It was a race against the clock for Damon and Stefan. Elena had been taken by Klaus and was now in more danger than ever before. Of course, Stefan was the most worried, seeing as Elena was his girlfriend. Every passing second scared him, as he didn't know if Elena was alive, dead or turned. Hopefully, the last option wasn't true.

"Stefan, stop worrying." Damon angrily hissed at his little brother, who had been pacing around his bedroom for the past 3 hours.

"I can't, Damon. Klaus has Elena. Who knows what he's done to her." Stefan sighed, sitting down for the first time in a while.

"He can't do much to her. He knows that if he kills her and we find out, we'll try and kill him. He can't turn her without fearing that maybe she'll wreck his plan. There's not many options left." Damon reminded him, taking a sip of whiskey.

"How can you drink? Elena is gone and all you can do is drink your troubles away." Stefan asked, rolling his eyes.

"Answer me this. What would you rather? Me drink as much alcohol as a vampire can withstand, or drink enough blood to keep me satisfied for the next hundred years? Believe me. I can do both." Damon excitedly stood up.

"Just shut up. Bonnie is currently using her powers to look for Elena. If she finds her, we'll be the first to know." Stefan took a sip of whiskey.

"You mean you'll be the first to know and I'll be dragged along like the weird third-wheel? Yeah. Pass." Damon smiled.

Within a few minutes, Damon and Stefan heard Stefan's phone ring. Picking it up, Stefan was worried and happy to hear Bonnie's voice.

"Is everything okay? Did you find her?" Stefan asked as he held the phone close to his ear, waiting impatiently for her answer.

"I found her. She's out where Emily's ghost destroyed the crystal. Be careful. She's not alone." Bonnie warned.

"Of course I'll be careful. Klaus has her." Stefan responded, before hanging up the phone.

"Shall we go?" Damon sighed before using his vampire speed to exit the house, running as fast as his power would allow him to go.

After what seemed like 2 minutes, Stefan and Damon had made it to where Bonnie said Elena and Klaus were. Hiding behind some larger rocks, Stefan started to panic when he saw Elena's body on the floor.

"She's right there. He could've done anything to her." Stefan was one step closer to losing his mind.

"Stefan. Damon. So nice of you to join us." Both Stefan and Damon slowly stood up from behind the rocks after hearing Klaus' voice.

"What did you do to her?" Stefan asked.

"Cutting right to the chase, are we?" Klaus smirked as he kneeled down next to Elena's body.

"Lovely." Klaus looked up at the brothers.

"Right now, there is a venom within her system. If I bite her, she dies. If either one of you bites her, she'll survive, but she'll become one of us. If none of us bite her, the venom will remain in her system, but she won't die. Not yet anyway." Klaus laughed.

"What do you want? In return for her safety..." Stefan began his trading. He would do anything if it meant that Elena was safe.

"You know what I want, and I know that you have it." Klaus hinted to the small journal in Damon's jacket.

"No way. This is not leaving my body." Damon hissed.

"Damon, give it to me." Stefan demanded, Damon not moving.

"Over my dead body." He resisted.

"You don't want to give it to me? Fine. Just remember, you damned her to this fate." Klaus sighed, lifting Elena's body off the floor, veins forming under his eyes and fangs appearing.

"No!" Stefan yelled before watching as Klaus sunk his fangs into Elena's neck for 5 seconds before dropping her body on the floor.

Without warning, Klaus left the two brothers, figuring that getting the journal now was impossible. It needed to be separated from Damon.

"What do we do?" Stefan started panicking.
"Well, I'm guessing that turning her is off the table?" Damon asked, watching as Stefan started stroking Elena's hair.

"Absolutely." Stefan responded.

"Stefan, would you seriously let the love of your life die, instead of allowing her to live?" Damon was confused.

"I don't want her getting trapped in the life of killing people and bloodshed. I'd never forgive myself if I let her become like us and she becomes worse." Stefan defended himself.

"I'd rather let her die a human than trap her as a vampire." Stefan sighed, still holding Elena in his arms.

"You really are stupid, aren't you? You've pined after her for years and you're willing to abandon that? And I really thought you couldn't get any more stupid." Damon pulled Elena out of Stefan's arms.

Letting the veins appear underneath his eyes and the fangs show, he sunk his teeth into the other side of Elena's neck for about 10-15 seconds, constantly being yelled at by Stefan.

"Stop! Damon! Stop!" Stefan yelled, hitting his older brother with all his energy.

After he needed to stop, Damon put Elena gently on the floor.

"Why the hell would you do that?! You've just condemned her!" Stefan angrily yelled at Damon, who wiped his mouth.
"Klaus bit her for 5 seconds. I bit her for 10-15 seconds, meaning my blood could override his, allowing Elena to survive." Damon explained.

"Let's get her home. She needs to get somewhere safe before she wakes up." Damon lifted Elena's body off the ground before handing her to Stefan.

"Damon! Watch out!" Stefan yelled as three wooden bullets were shot, hitting Damon in the stomach. Another three bullets were shot, this time hitting Elena's chest. The last two bullets, both wooden, were shot at Stefan who quickly avoided them, allowing him to speed home with Elena's wounded body in his arms.

After struggling to get the bullets out of his body, Damon stood up and escaped the shooter, heading back to the Salvatore Boarding House.
