Trying to figure out a way to test the sire bond was tricky. Stefan and Caroline were trying to find a way that would confirm or deny the sire bond that they thought Elena and Damon were bonded by.

"So, if the sire bond is something that occurs because of feelings before being turned, then why didn't you turn Elena instead of Damon?" Caroline asked as she wrote things down on a piece of paper.

"I didn't want to. I didn't want to trap Elena in a life of killing innocent people and bloodshed. I think that Elena would have rather died than become a vampire. But, Damon just had to save her..." Stefan sighed as he looked at pieces of paper that Caroline had written on.

"Are you going to tell them about the bond?" Caroline asked, looking at Stefan.

"I need to. They need to know." Stefan admitted, wishing that this whole situation was over.

"If this bond is confirmed, what does that mean for you and Elena?" Caroline was asking a question that was making Stefan feel awkward.

"If the bond is confirmed, then Elena and I will discuss it. Besides, we've been together for years." Stefan smiled, hopeful that the bond wasn't the cause of Elena's behaviour.

The more time Caroline spent looking at the pages, the more a plan started forming in her head.

"The journal..." Caroline reminded Stefan about the journal that Damon had.

"What about it?" Stefan was confused by Caroline's sudden revelation.

"Klaus wants the journal, right? If we manage to convince Damon about the importance of the journal, Elena, if she's bound to Damon, will agree. I'll give a plan, you'll disagree and Elena will side with you. Then, I'll try to convince Damon and if I do, she'll side with him." Caroline's plan was actually simple. Stefan was impressed with Caroline's plan that he agreed.

Texting both Damon and Elena, the four of them ended up in the living room of the Salvatore Boarding House, Damon confused.

"What's this about? We have lives you know..." Damon sighed, pouring himself a glass of whiskey.

"Caroline has a plan for Klaus." Stefan let Caroline start their plan for the test.

"The journal that Damon has, we use it to lure Klaus back to Mystic Falls and we then ambush him." Caroline smiled, Damon's expression changing.

"Wait what? No!" Stefan pretended, seeing Caroline's shocked look.

"Why not?!" Caroline asked, confused.

"You should have confirmed this plan with me! All I care about is Elena's safety and Klaus has connections! If we lure him, he might bring backup, more backup than we can handle! Besides, if we offer the journal, Klaus will be suspicious and he might think that we're luring him." Stefan rejected Caroline's made up plan.

"Elena? Do you have an opinion?" Stefan looked over at Elena, who looked back at him.

"I guess? I mean, if I know Klaus at all, and I know him somewhat, he is really dangerous and this plan could go bad, really fast." Elena agreed with Stefan, who secretly signalled to Caroline that it was her time to enact the next part of the test.

"Damon, tell me you disagree? With or without your humanity, you have proven that you're more than likely to kill anyone who gets in your way. If we use the journal, then you can use your excellent execution skills to kill Klaus and any backup he might have..." Caroline looked at Damon, who looked like he was considering this option.

"Caroline is right. I'm dangerous and Klaus needs to understand that I can and I will kill him. And even if he does have backup, we'll find all the weapons we need and we can always make some. I'm sure that Caroline's mother has some Vervain lying around that she'd be happy to spare." Damon actually agreed with Caroline for the first time ever.

"Elena, what do you think? Should we lure Klaus and kill him? I might need your help." He looked at Elena, his eyes wide and a smirk on his face. It was like he was trying to reach her dark side.

"Damon has a point. Klaus needs to die and if we need to use the journal, we have to." Elena agreed with Damon, confirming Stefan's worst fears.

"Sure." Stefan sighed, feeling defeated. Leaving the room, he walked into the study, Caroline following him as she closed the door.

"Stefan-" Before Caroline could say anything, Stefan stopped her.

"Good job Caroline. Your test worked. Elena and Damon are bonded. My girlfriend and my brother are bonded. The only way their bond would break is if one of them became a human again and unfortunately, a cure for vampirism doesn't exist. Great." Stefan got upset.

"Whoa, Stefan, calm down. We can deal with this. You can talk to Elena and explain." Caroline smiled.

"I can't! She's forever bonded to my brother and I can't change that." Stefan paced around the study.

"You know, when Isobel told Elena that she was in love with both Stefan and I, I didn't want to believe it, I mean, she's my girlfriend. She'd be a pretty crappy girlfriend if she was in love with my brother while being with me. But confirming that Elena and Damon are connected with the sire bond, it made me realise that she had feelings for my brother before he turned her. She had feelings for Damon, although she's dating me. That's the only way that they could be connected by the sire bond..." Stefan sat down, unable to process the information he had acquired.
