Chapter 45: Wrath of Katherine

Things had certainly been insanely amazing since Elena said yes to marrying Damon. Her 23rd birthday was in 10 hours, which meant that Caroline, Stefan and Bonnie were going to throw a birthday/bachelorette/bachelor party. The wedding was only a month away, but Damon's nerves were definitely taking effect.

"Happy nearly birthday babe." Damon kissed his fiancé as she arrived home from her 12 hour shift at the hospital. She was glad, because she had the next 4 days off.

"Thanks." She smiled, kissing Damon back.

"You okay?" Damon asked as he watched Elena put her bag down.

"Just a really...long shift. I keep having to tell myself one more year of residency, and I'll be free." Damon's heart started pounding when she said those words. It reminded him of the day Stefan tried to convince him not to take the cure.

"Come, sit. Have a drink with me." Damon offered as he wrapped his arms around her waist.

"I'm actually kind of tired. I'm gonna go to bed, but I'll see you in a few hours for what I think, is our combined wedding party." Elena smiled, Damon's heart rate slowing down.

Elena's job was really important to her, which meant it was important to him. He didn't want his life with Elena to become the visions that Stefan forced on him, so he was willing to put off any negative emotions he might have felt. He understood Elena's struggle, seeing as Elena wasn't the only human in their relationship.

Letting Elena get some sleep meant that she'd be more energetic for tomorrow.

When 9 am hit, Elena was up and ready for the day. She sat in bed, reading her favourite book, watching as Damon walked into the room with a plate of food.

"Birthday breakfast in bed for my beautiful fiancé." Damon smirked as he got into bed, having handed her the plate. He rested his hand on her leg, her eyes going from his bare chest to his pants.

"Not now Damon! I'm trying to enjoy your breakfast!" Elena smiled as she started eating.

"Happy Birthday bestie!" Caroline entered the room, a party pooper in Bonnie's hand. Feeling excited, Elena hugged her friends as she sat in bed, feeling happy.

"Who's ready for a day of celebration and partying?" Caroline exclaimed as she smiled.

"I am!" Everyone stopped smiling when they heard who just spoke.

"Katherine." Damon rolled his eyes as everyone turned around to see Katherine leaning against the doorframe.

Getting dressed, Katherine met everyone downstairs, a huge smile on her face.

"Well, don't you all look happy!" Katherine sarcastically laughed.

"What are you doing here?" Elena stood in her dressing gown, pissed off.

"I heard through the grapevine that you and Damon were getting married! Cute ring by the way!" Katherine smiled. Everyone guaranteed that Katherine had a secret plan or trick.

Elena suddenly became happy. Katherine was so infatuated by her engagement to Damon that she probably didn't know about Damon being human again.

"I bought you a pre-wedding gift." She smiled, grabbing something out of her pocket. It was a ring, a ring that Elena didn't recognise at first, until she saw the engraved writing.

"This is Jenna's ring. How the hell do you have this?!" Elena got upset.

"Klaus gave it to me. I promised that I wouldn't ever give it to you, as blackmail. But, he's gone now, so I guess you can have the ugly ring back." Katherine chucked it to Elena, who was one look at Katherine away from crying.

Damon was pissed off at Katherine. Not only had she made his fiancé upset, but she was intruding.

"Oh, Damon. I brought something for you too, don't worry." She smiled, everyone confused.

"Lorenzo!" Kathrine yelled. Damon looked at Katherine with confusion, until a man with short black hair and a silver necklace came inside.

"Enzo..." Damon looked in shock as one of his old friends made himself known.

"Hello Damon." Enzo smirked, his British accent standing out.

"Let's get the party started, shall we?" Katherine asked as she poured herself a glass of Damon's special bourbon.
