Things had started to get a little boring since Elena became a vampire. For one, Damon, as promised, brought home two types of blood every day. One type was for Elena and Stefan. One type was for him. Elena had always wondered what it would be like to drink human blood again, but after seeing how it affected Stefan, she decided against it, knowing that one wrong move and she'd suffer the consequences.

One night, after Damon brought home 4-5 bags of both human and animal blood, Elena stared at it, the animal blood. For the first time since she became a vampire, the idea of drinking animal blood was unappealing. After staring at it, she looked away, noticing that Damon had put a bag of human blood in her hand.

"Drink." Damon smiled, waiting for Elena to open the bag. Doing as he asked, for the first time ever, she felt refreshed, like she had finally found something that would satisfy her.

After a few more sips, Elena leaned back, smiling.

"Damon..." Elena spoke up, looking out at the pitch black darkness that enveloped Mystic Falls.

"Yes?" Damon asked, looking at Elena.

"I want to go outside. During the day. I don't want to spend the rest of my life cooped up in this house. I want to be free, like you and Stefan." Elena explained, Damon standing up.

"I agree. It's about time you finally live a little...no pun intended." Damon smirked as he stood up, going to the desk in his study. Elena watched him pull out a silver box, with a smaller box inside.

"What's that?" Elena asked, confused.

"This, Elena, is your freedom." Damon opened the smaller box, showing Elena a ring that seemed perfect for a woman.

"It's like yours isn't it?" Elena asked, looking intently at the beautiful piece of jewlery that Damon had given to her.

"This is one of the few daylight rings that exist within Mystic Falls. Vampires who don't have this ring will burn up and die if they even get touched by the sun. With this ring on, you can walk freely, anywhere you want. That way, no one will even suspect that you may be a creature of the undead." Damon explained, allowing Elena to put the ring on.

"Elena? You coming to bed? It's nearly midnight..." Stefan asked.

"Yeah. I'll be up in a minute." Elena smiled, turning to Stefan before turning to Damon.

"Go up to bed. But, be up at 9 am sharp. You, Stefan and I have a very busy day tomorrow." Damon smiled, letting Elena go to bed with Stefan.

Waking up before 9 am, Elena was excited. She sat up, watching as Stefan slept peacefully. Walking over to the window, she pulled back the curtain, making sure that she was out of the sunlight.

"Here goes nothing." Seeing the ring on her finger, Elena moved her hand closer to the sunlight, eventually feeling the warmth that she had missed so very much. Smiling, she could see the bright light on her skin and she could feel the warmth, but no burning. She was happy. She could finally live again.

Hearing Stefan's phone buzz, Elena grabbed it, recognising the number.

"Hey Jenna. Yes...I know. I'm so sorry. I would have called you sooner, but phone my died..." Elena spent the next 10 minutes lying to her aunt, who was ovbiously very worried about her.

"Yes. I'll be home by this afternoon." Elena smiled as she could see Stefan wake up.

"I'll see you later. Bye." Elena smiled before she put Stefan's phone down, allowing him to wake up and get dressed.

By 9 am, Damon, Stefan and Elena were walking out of the Salvatore Boarding House.

"Oh my gosh. This feels so good." Elena danced in the sun, finally feeling free.

"Watching her dance around like this makes her look like a 5 year old." Damon laughed at his friend.

"Give her a break, Damon. She's been cooped up for a while and her life is about to get a hell of a lot harder than it was." Stefan smiled.

"I can hear you guys!" Elena smiled, hearing then from 10 feet away.

The day went smoothly. Elena acted as normal as she could, considering she knew what was going to happen when she reached her front door step.

Knocking on the door, she smiled when Jenna opened the door. Elena didn't move, but she felt weird.

"Is everything okay? You know you're allowed in, right? This is your house." Jenna smiled, confused. Not moving, Elena looked at Damon and Stefan.

"Come in, Elena." Jenna smiled. Elena finally moved, walking inside her house. Damon and Stefan didn't need permission as they had been to her house over 10 times.
