When Damon and Elena came back to the Boarding House, Stefan heard everything. Every word that they spoke to each other, he heard, meaning he heard Damon say that he loved her and he heard Elena say 'I love you' back. Hearing those words terrified Stefan. For the first time in his life, he had let Damon steal Elena away from him.
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw the same scene play out in his head. It was Damon and Elena's wedding. Stefan objected, forcing the wedding to end. Elena used a stake to kill him and Damon berated him as he watched Stefan die. Every time this scene played out, Stefan jolted up, sweating. Unfortunately, his nightmares still continued during the day when he'd watch Damon and Elena be all lovey-dovey with each other. Whether it was them making breakfast together, or Damon kissing Elena passionately before he dropped her off at school.
It was hard for Stefan to fall asleep considering he'd have to endure another day of torture.
Stefan wanted this day to be over. He watched as Damon and Elena sat near the fire within the Boarding House, a book in Elena's hand as Damon kissed her head. Closing his eyes, Stefan tried to sleep.
Opening his eyes, Stefan looked around, he was in the Lockwood Mansion. Seeing the suits and the dresses, he guessed that he was in 1864.
"Look who's found his dancing shoes." Katherine smiled as she got closer to Stefan, his lips trying to touch hers.
"No touching Mr. Salvatore. Those are the rules." Katherine teased as she and Stefan danced, their hands barely touching.
"I thought you didn't believe in rules?" Stefan asked, admiring Katherine in all her glory.
Looking around, Stefan noticed Damon, his hair curled. He noticed that Damon seemed quite upset by seeing Stefan and Katherine dancing.
"My brother is still quite upset that you chose me to escort you." Stefan admitted, changing directions with Katherine.
Continuing to dance, Katherine smiled.
"Well, Damon needs to concede that his younger brother is a better dancer." She looked at Damon, who looked away with sadness in his eyes.
"Looks like he's found someone to occupy him." Katherine smiled at the sight of seeing Elena holding Damon's hand, his attention now on Elena instead of Stefan and Katherine.
Elena wasn't in a 1864 dress. She was in her modern day outfit. She was wearing jeans, a blue shirt and converse. Something wasn't right.
"Elena..." Stefan was shocked to see Elena. Seeing that Elena and Damon walked off, Stefan attempted to follow them.
"Stefan, don't." Katherine tried to stop him, but he didn't. He opened the same door that Elena did, but all he saw was white. Stefan walked through the door.
Stefan jolted up, his face and torso covered in sweat. Checking the time, he sighed when he realised that it was only 2:35 am. Turning over, feeling the cold side of the pillow on his cheek, Stefan closed his eyes again, taking deep breaths in and out.
"Elena!" The door opened to reveal the Grill. Walking around, Stefan noticed that Elena was at the pool table, a pool cue in her hands. She was looking in Stefan's direction, smirking.
"It's your turn." She smiled. Stefan smiled and went to move towards her, but Damon walked in front of him, holding two glasses. Stefan looked at them in sadness, realising that Elena had been talking to Damon and not him.
"Prepare to loose." Damon smirked as he kissed Elena passionately, putting both drinks on a table nearby.
Watching as they had fun, Stefan was upset. He watched as Damon wrapped his arms around Elena's torso, helping her play the game.
"It hurts, doesn't it?" Stefan heard Katherine's voice. He looked to his left, seeing her in her 1864 dress, her hands on his chest.
"Now you know how I feel. Don't fight it Stefan. You loved me once. You can love me again." Katherine kissed his cheek.
"I love you, Stefan. We'll be together again, I promise." Katherine kissed him.
Stefan once again jolted up from his dream, feeling the sweat on his forehead.
"You okay, brother? I heard a lot of yelling." Damon entered Stefan's bedroom, concerned.
"I'm fine Damon. Go away." Stefan hissed as he threw his head back onto his pillow, watching as Damon left his room, shutting the door.
