A year had passed since Elena was put into the coma. Caroline and Stefan had gotten together, both having similar interests. Damon was still holding out for Elena, hoping that maybe she'd wake up soon. Elena had been moved to Damon's bed, seeing as he wanted her to be more comfortable. Every night before he fell asleep, he'd go into her mind and create a sweet dream for her. Whether it was a picnic on a field or drinking coffee at the Grill.

"So, what's the big news?" Damon asked, walking down the steps within the Boarding House. He stopped when he saw Elijah sitting near the fireplace.

"Nope." Damon turned around, not wanting to hear anything he had to say.

"Damon, c'mon. Turn around, come here and sit down. Elijah has some information for us." Stefan asked, Damon groaning as he did what he was told.

"First business. I'm sorry about Elena." Elijah sighed, looking at Damon.

"Get to the information." Damon hissed. He hated anyone from the Original family. That included Elijah, whom Elena once trusted.

Standing up, Elijah walked over to Damon, handing him a vile of blood.

"What's this?" Damon asked, confused.

"The cure, for vampirism." Elijah revealed.

"How do you have that?!" Stefan asked, shocked by Elijah's reveal.

"That is none of your concern. What you should be concerned about is whether or not you give it to Elena." Elijah rolled his eyes, going back to his chair.

"Why wouldn't we give it to her? She never wanted to be a vampire in the first place. If we give this to her, she might get what she wanted and she might wake up from her coma." Caroline was confused.

"Like everything else, the cure has a catch." Elijah smiled.

"What catch?" Damon asked, concerned.

"If Elena takes the cure, it may or may not turn her back into a human, considering her doppelgänger blood. Even if it does turn her back into a human, she may or may not die from the coma. Her human self, if the cure works, might not let her survive the coma. She's more likely to survive the coma via her vampire self." Elijah explained.

"Get out." Damon stood up, pissed off at Elijah, the cure and the coma that Elena was trapped in. Not wanting to anger Damon, Elijah left, leaving Caroline, Stefan, Bonnie and Damon to discuss their options.

"What do we do? Both options aren't great." Bonnie sighed.

"I think we shouldn't give the cure to Elena. Even Elijah expressed his opinion. Elena didn't become a vampire just to turn back into a human and possibly die." Caroline expressed her feelings.

"Caroline, Elena has wanted to be a human again ever since the moment she fully became a vampire. If we don't give her the cure, we'd be disrespecting her wishes." Stefan objected to his girlfriend's opinion.

"But if we give her the cure and let her become human again, the coma might kill her, since she won't be able to heal by herself." Damon hated this.

He hated having to decide between Elena being human and Elena being a vampire. Yes, he wanted her to be human again so she could grow old, get married and have kids, but he didn't want to let Elena take the cure and possibly die.

"Why don't we ask Elena?" Damon asked.

Walking upstairs to his room, Damon opened the door and headed over to Elena. He held her hand and closed his eyes, entering her mind.

He saw Elena sitting outside with Jenna and her parents. She was happy. Walking over to the front porch, his eyes met Elena's.

"I'll only be a moment." She smiled, meeting Damon at the steps.

"Hey! I missed you!" Elena hugged Damon, kissing him with passion. She may only have seen him last night, but every day she missed him, no matter how many times she saw him.

"I missed you more." Damon kissed Elena back, sitting her down.

"What's going on?" Elena asked, confused.

"Elijah came back. He had a way out for you." Damon smiled, holding Elena's hand.

"A way out? What is it?" Elena asked, hopeful.

Damon spent the next 5 minutes explaining the cure to Elena, who looked like she had just been told that she wasn't graduating.

"Damon, look at me." Elena held Damon's hand, staring into his eyes.

"You know what I want. Make the choice for me." Elena smiled at her boyfriend, who looked defeated.

"I'll save you Elena. I promise I will." Damon kissed Elena before pulling away, smiling.

Damon let go of Elena's hand, opening his eyes.

"So? What did she say? What's her choice?" Caroline asked as she, Stefan and Bonnie walked into his bedroom, worried.

"The choice that she would have made if I didn't feed her my blood." Damon sighed, opening the cure that Elijah had given him.

"Damon, once you give it to her, she can never go back. She can never be a vampire again." Stefan warned his brother.

"It's Elena's choice. Not mine." Damon lifted the vile to Elena's lips, preparing himself.

Opening her mouth, he poured the blood in, closing her mouth once just over half the vile of blood was gone. Everyone waited anxiously as they watched Elena's body remain still.

"Why is nothing happening? Why isn't she waking up?" Caroline knelt beside the bed, looking at Elena.

"I don't know..." Damon asked, worried.

The group watched as Elena jolted up, her eyes widened.

"Elena!" Caroline hugged her best friend.

"Caroline!" Elena hugged Caroline back.
