"Has anyone seen Damon?" Elena asked as she entered the kitchen of the Boarding House.

"Last time I checked, he was with you." Stefan spoke, pouring himself a glass of blood.

"He said that he had to go out and do something. He then got up and left." Elena explained, Stefan sighing.

"That either means he found a clue that could lead us to Professor Maxfield, or he's done something really stupid." Stefan put his glass down, knowing what the obvious answer was.

"Or both." Caroline mentioned

"Hold on..." Stefan spoke as he took his buzzing phone out of his pocket, seeing an unknown number on the screen.

"Hello? Yes, this is he." Stefan put the phone to his ear. Caroline looked nervous.

"Hospital." Caroline mouthed to Elena, since she still had her vampire hearing.

Concerned, Elena continued to focus on Stefan.

"Yep. Sure. We'll be there right away." Stefan hung up.

"Damon's at the hospital. They said that he was in an accident." Stefan said, grabbing his jacket.

Arriving at the hospital, Stefan and Elena rushed to the receptionist while Bonnie and Caroline parked the car.

"What room is Damon Salvatore in?" Stefan asked as he nervously looked around.

"Relation?" The lady asked smiling.

"I'm his brother and she is his girlfriend." Stefan informed the lady who typed away.

"Room 145." The lady answered as Stefan and Elena ran through the hospital. Finding the right room, a doctor emerged, smiling.

"You must be the brother, and you must be the girlfriend." The doctor smiled as she identified Stefan and Elena.

"Is he okay?" Elena asked as Stefan looked at a conscious Damon through the window.

"He's stable, but a little knocked up. He'll be good to go within the next month or two." The doctor informed the two as Stefan walked inside.

"What happened to him?" Elena looked confused.

"According to witnesses, Damon was visiting a house and there was a man inside who took out a gun and shot him. He luckily ducked out of the way and the bullet entered his leg." The doctor looked at the sheet that she had been given.

"Thank you." Elena smiled as she walked into the room, seeing Damon laughing.

"Hey." Elena gave Damon a huge hug, unable to comprehend that her vampire boyfriend was currently laying in a hospital bed.

"How are you feeling?" Elena asked as Stefan walked off to go get something.

"I'm in pain. Lots of pain. Just because they removed the bullet, doesn't mean it doesn't hurt." Damon laughed as he looked at his leg.

"The doctors must have been very confused when they removed a wooden bullet from the wound..." Elena laughed, Damon's smile dropping.

"What is it?" Elena asked, confused by Damon's silence.

"They didn't remove a wooden bullet." Damon spoke. He was clearly unsure about how to break the news to Elena.

"What do you mean?" Elena questioned Damon, who avoided her eye contact.

"They showed me the bullet before they took it away. It was a normal metal bullet." Damon admitted. Without warning, he moved the blanket from his body, revealing a cast that enveloped his leg. Elena looked at it in shock. Damon shouldn't've had a cast on. His vampirism allowed him to be completely healed.

"Damon, why do you have a cast?" Elena looked at Damon with confusion. She looked at Stefan who dropped the bottle of water that he was holding.

"Surprise." He smiled as he handed the empty vile to Elena, who looked at him in shock.

"There's no cure in this!" Elena passed it to Stefan, who seemed just as shocked.

"I'm human now." Damon smiled, watching as a tear rolled down Elena's cheek.

"You're human..." She couldn't hold it in any longer. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, enveloping him in a hug. She kissed him passionately, unable to believe that her boyfriend, Damon Salvatore, was no longer a vampire.

"Caroline is really going to freak out." Stefan laughed as Damon smiled.

"Can I have some coffee please?" Damon asked, looking a little thirsty.

"Of course." Elena kissed him before standing up, walking out of the room.
