Damon had been stuck in the study for 4 hours. He knew that there was something especially important about the journal that he carried around with him, but he didn't know what. He had read from cover to cover almost 3 times, yet nothing inside seemed even remotely interesting.

On the other hand, Elena was also in the study, yet she was coming and going, considering she had school. Having not spoken to Stefan in a while resulted in her spending her free sessions and lunch periods with Damon looking at the journal. She was not as clueless as Damon was, considering she managed to understand one word: Hybrids.

"Hybrids. What are Hybrids?" Elena looked up from the journal, confusing Damon.

"What? Where did you see that?" Damon asked, rapidly searching through the journal for the 4th time.

"Right there." Elena pointed to the word, Damon getting up out of his seat to check the bookshelf.

"I need to drink. Blood or burbon?" Elena asked, sitting up from her seat.

"Both." Damon sighed as Elena walked out of the study, going to get two blood bags and a bottle of burbon.

Returning to the study, Damon seemed more upset than earlier.

"Why do you need both blood and burbon?" Elena asked as she placed the drinks down on the table where Damon was situated.

"Because the blood is for the fact that I haven't been able to feed in a while and the burbon is just something that calms me down." Damon smiled as he kept reading.

Elena took a sip of her blood, enjoying the reasearch she was doing. Damon looked up at Elena, who was so interested in her research that she didn't notice the small spot of blood that resided just under her bottom lip. Something about noticing the blood made Damon want to wipe the blood away with his thumb, but he decided against it, as he didn't want Stefan to become any more suspicious than he already might have been.

Looking at Elena was distracting Damon, and he knew it, but he kept looking at her anyway, noticing the few strands of hair that stuck out from the rest of her hair. He noticed how her leg was bouncing up and down, and she was bouncing the pen in her left hand. Every detail that Damon could notice about Elena, he did.

After a while, Damon got Elena's attention, making her recognise the spot of blood under her lips.

"Thanks." She smiled at Damon, who felt a weird sensation. He felt like there was something between him and Elena, something almost heartwarming.

"So, on the topic of the journal and it's information, what exactly is a Hybrid?" Elena asked, Damon putting down his book.

"A Hybrid is a mix between two species. In the case of this journal, it's a mix between vampires...and werewolves." Damon sighed.

"What would Klaus want with a journal that mentions Hybrids?" Elena asked, confused.

"Maybe...Klaus is a Hybrid himself and he needs the information about Hybrids to become stronger?" Damon surprisingly came up with a sensible plan that Klaus would actually follow.

"Did you just come up with a logical plan that Klaus could be following?" Elena seemed surprised.

"Yes...maybe I did." Damon seemed surpsied himself.

"That's the first smart thing you've said since I met you." Elena smirked, causing Damon to chuckle and roll his eyes.

"Ha ha. Funny." Damon smiled. Even when Elena was insulting him, Damon didn't mind, because he wasn't really focused on her insults, he was focused on her beauty and smarts.

He was also impressed that Elena had picked up being a vampire so easily. Most new vampires would freak out and go on a killing spree, yet Elena was sitting down in the study, helping her boyfriend's brother figure out Klaus' plan.

It might have also helped that she had two people who cared about her and her best friend. Not many new vampires had people around them who could help.

"Anyway, should we inform Stefan and Caroline?" Damon asked, looking at Elena.

"I mean, we should, but I haven't seen them for a while and I think Stefan's avoiding me..." Elena sighed, worried about her boyfriend.
