"Stefan, stop pacing already. Elena is safely in your bed, still asleep." Damon sighed.

"How could you? You know that this was the last thing I wanted her to go through." Stefan groaned, angry at how impulsive Damon could be.

"Ignore the fact that I've started the process. What you need to focus on, is the fact that Klaus is still out there and he's still trying to get the journal. Dick move by the way." Damon started pacing, trying to get Stefan's mind off Elena.

As if Elena had amazing timing, Stefan stood up, seeing Elena carefully walking down the stairs. Racing to her, Stefan helped her get the rest of the way down before sitting her on the couch.

"How do you feel?" Stefan asked, looking at his clearly tired girlfriend.

"Like I just died and came back to life..." She smiled. Stefan couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or not.

"Well, can you tell us what the last thing you remember is?" Damon asked.

"I don't know. I think Klaus had me and was demanding something. Then...it all goes hazy." Elena sighed, Stefan wrapping his arm around her shoulder.

"Well, you were close. Klaus kidnapped you and in exchange for your safety, he wanted this journal..." Damon held up the journal before putting it away.

"...but when I refused to give it to him, he bit you, activating a venom that he had put into your system. Stefan wanted to let you die, but instead, I counteracted the venom by biting you myself. Then, you were mortally wounded by bullets. Those bullets caused your death, but now, you're alive again. How fun is that?" Damon laughed at Elena's confusion.

"What does that mean?" Elena asked.

"Because of Damon wanting to save you, he started the process of you transitioning into a vampire. There is actually only one more step left. He bit you, then you were killed. Now that you're awake, you have 24 hours to drink human blood...or else." Stefan spoke.

"Or else what?" Elena asked, worried about the consequences.

"Or else you'll die." Damon finished.

"So, by this time tomorrow, if I don't drink any human blood, I'll die?" Elena questioned.

"Exactly." Stefan sighed, wishing that he was somewhere else right now.

"The fun thing about this whole 24 hour period, is that you might feel urges. You can either act on those urges and complete the transition, or you can hold off and die. Either way, I'm happy to assist however I can. Even if that means helping you become the amazing vampire that some fear you might become." Damon laughed, sitting back.

"Thanks for volunteering Damon. You can stay here and babysit a possible vampire while I go upstairs and do some more research on Klaus." Stefan hissed, getting up off the couch.

"Looks like someone hasn't had their recommended daily intake of blood." Damon laughed, Elena looking out the window.

"What's it gonna be? Vampire...or death?" Damon asked, smiling.

"I have 23 hours to decide that. Now, please tell me that I can still do human things?" Elena hoped.

"Yep. You're not yet a vampire, so you'll have the urge to drink blood. But unlike a vampire, you're still able to walk freely out in the sun and you can still enter people's houses without needing to be invited in." Damon smiled.

Watching as Elena seriously considered her future, Damon admired Elena. Katherine hadn't really given him a choice. She manipulated him into a one way relationship and coerced him into becoming a vampire. Whereas Elena, although Damon started the process, had the choice in whether she wanted to become immortal, or die. She had the chance to change her fate.

"You got anything to eat? I'm starving." Elena looked like she could suck the blood right out of a horse.

"Here. It isn't what you're really wanting, but I'll keep you full for a little while." Damon handed her a cup.

"It's animal blood, the stuff that Stefan survives on. And no, it won't complete the transition. Only human blood can complete the transition." Damon explained, chuckling at Elena's worried look.

After 22 hours, Stefan still hadn't come down from his bedroom, probably trying to avoid seeing Elena's possible transition.

There was only 2 hours until Elena would face one of her two fates. Damon didn't think that Elena would last this long. He thought that maybe she'd try to end her suffering to stop the urge to drink blood, or she'd cave in and go hunting for a human, since the moon had come out.

But no, the moon was out with only 2 hours left and Elena had been sitting near the fire within the Salvatore Boarding House, a book in her hands as she read.

"Wow Elena. I didn't think you'd last this long." Damon laughed.

"When I need to decide something, I usually wait for a while until I'm sure. Besides, I've decided already." Elena revealed.

"Oh? What's your fate then?" Damon asked, interested in her response.

"Stefan might not like this, but I want to complete the transition." Elena revealed.

"Can you help me? I want to do this, but I'm afraid I might get caught." Elena asked.

"Sure. I'd be happy to assist in your transition. In fact, I had a slight feeling that you'd choose this fate, so, I went ahead and found you a tasty snack." Damon smiled as a knock on the door sounded.

Letting Elena hide first, Damon walked towards the front door. Opening it, he let in the mystery person. Putting a bag over their head, Damon smiled.

"Dinner is here." Damon looked over at Elena, who looked excited but also nervous.

"I've covered this person's head as to not freak you out." Damon smiled, letting Elena get closer to the mystery person sitting on the chair in front of her.

"How do I do it?" Elena looked at Damon, who looked extremely happy.

"First, you're going to smell the neck. This'll activate the urge." Damon instructed.

Kneeling down, Elena got closer to the mystery person's neck, lifting the bag only slightly as to not reveal the identity. Putting her lips close to the neck, she could feel the urge occurring.

"You'll feel the veins appear under your eyes and you feel the fangs start to show. Don't fight it. Let it happen." Damon got closer to Elena, who could feel these changes occurring.

"Breathe in, breathe out and then bite." Damon whispered, seeing Elena in her beautiful vampire form.

Without a second thought, Elena sunk her teeth into the mystery person, feeling the satisfaction of being able to complete her transition.

She pulled away shortly after, feeling the rush start to slow down.

"Elena..." She recognised that voice. Looking behind her, she saw Stefan, his eyes filled with shock but also guilt.

Taking a deep breath in and out, Elena calmed down, allowing her veins to disappear and her fangs to disappear also.

"Stefan." She smiled, not wanting to get any closer.

"Well hello Stefan. I see you've met the newest vampire to Mystic Falls." Damon smiled, giving Elena a side hug.

Walking off in anger, Damon followed Stefan.

"You've ruined her life. You know that right?!" Stefan yelled, angry at Damon.

"What's done is done." Damon spoke, not seeming too guilty about what he had just done to Elena.
