Being married to Damon was a dream for Elena. She was officially a Salvatore, something that she once imagined with Stefan, but she was certainly happier with Damon. Whenever she hopped into the shower, she was happier than ever to let Damon join her, considering he was her husband. Every time she looked at herself in the mirror, her eyes always went to either her baby bump that was more visible, or the wedding ring on her finger.

Damon was overjoyed to discover that he was going to be father. Whenever he saw Elena and her baby bump, his heart skipped a beat and he couldn't help but smile. He'd make a point of complimenting her and her body or he'd hold her and just smile.

As for Elena, she had forgotten about what Katherine revealed to her. She had been so focused on being a wife to Damon and a future mother that every time she thought about Katherine, which was rare, she'd think about her torment and her horrible nature and not what she had revealed to Elena.

Elena started noticing small changes with Damon, changes that she was scared of.

"Oh my god! Damon!" Bonnie panicked when she saw Damon lift a cup of coffee with his hand. His finger tips were turning grey, like a vampire would as they died.

"What the hell?" Stefan examined Damon's hand, confused.

"What's going on? Why is his hand turning grey?" Elena started to panic, her heart racing.

"Caroline, take Elena out of here." Stefan asked as Caroline gently held Elena's hand, watching as she started to cry in fear.

"Damon, can you hear me?" Bonnie asked looking at Damon as he tried not to panic. His eyes were glued to his hand, a shocked expression on his face.

"I'm just shocked, not deaf." He rolled his eyes, gently placing his hand on the bench.

"How are you feeling?" Stefan asked.

"I feel okay. It's not affecting me, I think..." He stood up, trying to remain calm.

Stefan and Bonnie both made sure that Damon could get around. He looked fine, but the fact that the grey area was on his hand was concerning.

"I need to go and make sure Elena is okay." Damon informed Bonnie and Stefan, who were hesitant.

"Damon, no. Who knows what's happening to you." Stefan rejected Damon.

"I need to make sure that my wife and our child are okay. If this grey area is something that we need to worry about, I don't want her being too stressed. I want Elena to know that I am okay." Damon demanded, walking away from Stefan and Bonnie.

Damon walked up to his room, asking Caroline politely to leave. She left, Elena worried for Damon.

"Are you okay?" Elena asked as Damon sat on the edge of his bed, trying to keep the sight of his hand away from Elena.

"I'm doing fine." He smiled, feeling weird. He didn't want to worry Elena, so he didn't tell her.

As he sat on the bed, he could feel something moving up his arm. Looking down, Damon could see the grey area moving up his arm. He tried to stay calm, to not alert Elena.

"Damon, is everything okay?" Elena asked, noticing the change in his behaviour.

"Elena, everything is fine." Damon reassured his wife, who looked more concerned than before.

"Damon?" Elena looked at her husband, a confused look on her face. He was staring out the window, not responding.

"Damon." Elena tried to get Damon's attention, his eyes still focused on the window.

"Damon!" Her arms went around his torso as he fell back onto the bed.

"DAMON!" Elena screamed as Stefan, Caroline and Bonnie ran into the room, confused.

"H- H- He wasn't responding." Elena started crying, unable to hold back her emotions. It wasn't much better considering her hormones were all over the place due to her pregnancy.

"Look at him. I think he's gone." Bonnie directed her attention to his body, the grey area going away. Elena balled her eyes out. She couldn't believe that Damon was gone.

(3 Months Later)

Elena stood in the Salvatore Crypt, Damon's casket being put in the very back corner, away from the entry.

Elena hadn't spoken in days. She stayed silent. Every time someone mentioned Damon, she cried.

The funeral was beautiful from Elena's view. Although she couldn't speak, she still made sure the service went on smoothly. Bonnie offered to let her stay at her place, as being in the Salvatore Boarding House would have been too hard.

"Are you doing okay?" Bonnie asked, holding Elena as they sat in the far corner of Bonnie's bedroom.

"My husband died in front of me. I can barely go home without crying. I kept a secret from him and it's my fault that he's dead." Elena cried.

"No! It's not your fault!" Bonnie tried to reason with Elena, who finally remembered why Katherine had said.

"If I tell you something, can you promise me that you won't tell Stefan and Caroline, at least...not for a while?" Elena asked as Bonnie sat next to her.

For the next few minutes, Elena told Bonnie what Katherine had told her before she died.
