Celeste had been at the Leaky for almost two days, when she ran into someone from Hogwarts; Professor Lupin to be exact. He had been sitting at the bar, when Celeste had gone through to get herself some food. Ever since she left the manor, she had started eating more. She hadn't been able to eat much, since her stomach was use to only eating a little, but she was eating more than she would've at the manor.
"Professor Lupin, I didn't expect to see you here," Celeste commented, deciding to greet her favorite professor.
"Miss Malfoy, how nice it is to see you," He replied, and she smiled.
"It's, uh, Black now. I believe the Malfoys have disowned me for good, so I should probably switch back to my father's last name," Celeste said, feeling a little awkward.
"Oh no," Lupin murmured,"what happened?" He asked, as Celeste motioned for him to follow her to a table.
"I refused to get married, is what happened. Technically, I didn't really say anything to them, I just left, but I believe they've got the idea. They've only sent me one owl, and it was a howler telling me if I didn't come back I was disowned, so..." Celeste trailed off, and Lupin nodded.
"I always hated the pureblood traditions. They never seemed fair to me," Lupin replied, causing Celeste to chuckle.
"Professor, can I ask you a question?" She asked, and Lupin sighed.
"Depends on how I'm supposed to answer," He replied, making her bite her lip in thought.
"It may sound weird, but I swear you're familiar to me. I feel like I've met you before, like I know you from somewhere," Celeste commented,"Do I know you, other than being my professor?" She asked, causing him to sigh again.
"Miss Black--" He began, before she cut him off.
"Just Celeste, please," She murmured, and he nodded.
"Celeste, there's a lot of things you may not remember, and to be honest, some of it I wish never happened. You do know me, but I don't want to tell you anything, unless you're ready for some sad stories from the past," He said, making her sigh.
Celeste didn't know what to do. If she knew Lupin before, that meant he could tell her what she couldn't remember. If she knew Lupin when she was young enough, he could always give her stories about her parents. She wondered if she even wanted stories about her parents, but she figured the stories couldn't be too bad.
"I'd like to hear everything, if you'd tell me," She replied, and he nodded.
"Well, if you didn't already know, I was in the same year as your father, Sirius Black. He and myself were friends with two other boys, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. During Hogwarts, we were quite the pranksters, especially your father and James. They were practically brothers, which would be a surprise to hear now considering what happened. Anyhow, your mother, Fantasia, was about sixteen when you were born, and your father was seventeen. Your father had talked us into befriending your mother, so he could talk to his brother, Regulus. When Fantasia told your father she was pregnant, your father went ballistic. He did not want to be a father, especially so young, but he decided to give it a bit of a try. When you were born, I was named as your godfather," Remus explained, and Celeste gasped.
"My godfather?" She asked, and he nodded,"Why didn't you take me in? Why did you let me go with the Malfoys?" She asked, making him frown.
"Y'see, Celeste, I'm a werewolf," He whispered the word, not wanting anyone else to hear,"So, I felt like you wouldn't be safe with me. I didn't have money to support both of us, or give you everything you needed," He replied,"Back to the story, anyway, your father tried for the first couple of months, but after that, he pretty much gave up. He would give you gifts, and he would take you when it was his turn, but other than that, he really didn't have anything to do with you. I was the one that took care of you when it was his time to have you. Fantasia had disappeared a year before your father, so he had you for an entire year. I took care of you the whole time, not leaving you alone with him once.
When I wasn't able to be around, Lily Potter would take care of you. The day Harry was born, your father pretty much turned his back on you. He never once tried to get you back, except for when he got jealous when you wanted me more than him. He forgot your birthday the year Harry was born, and Lily didn't like that. Lily chewed him out, before taking you out for ice cream, cake, and presents. That same year, I wrapped my gifts to you and put his name on them to keep you from crying. You were so upset he paid more attention to Harry, and I didn't want you to think he forgot your birthday.
Celeste, the moment he went to Azkaban, and I found out what happened to the Potters, I was afraid for you. I was worried he was going to hurt you next. Regulus tried to help protect you from You-Know-Who, and I had gotten to be friends with Regulus. He was a good man, and until the day he died, I knew you were in good hands. I'm sorry about everything that happened to you, because I know what has happened, since I remember everything your father told me his parents did to him. I just want you to know that I'll always be here for you, and I know I said I left you for your safety, please know that there's always a room for you in my home," He stated, and Celeste smiled sadly at him.
Yes, her father may have abandoned her and loved Harry more, but she had Remus Lupin, someone who she knew she could count on. He was her family, and other than Draco, Lupin was all the family she needed...
