"Crazy is good. Crazy is unpredictable and powerful."My dad smiles at me and I smile back. I know it's just my mind playing tricks on me but it still feels so realistic. My eight-year-old self suddenly appears next to him and he takes me up on his shoulder as my brother appears with my mom. Is that what my mom looks like now?
I only have one memory of her and us together. Could that be our family if she hadn't left? What if she hadn't left, would dad have died or would he have survived? What if Saul didn't raise us? What would have happened to the children in front of me?
My thoughts are interrupted when I hear another student next to me wondering if I'm just in this lesson because of Saul and if I get a better treatment by Farah because of my family. No, you dipshit, I'm repeating this class, I wish to yell at her.
I'm still working on my powers with first-year students although I've been working on my powers longer than they even know they have any. My dad's this powerful superhero and my brother the great student. Then there's me who doesn't even finish a first year class in magic.
I wonder what my mom is like as I see her playing with us in the grass. Would she tell us that we should be brave or would she be super anxious of us getting hurt? Would she be the parent that we would run to when dad says no?
"Scar, enough!" Farah's voice is the first one that I hear and realize that I'm still standing there. My dad has disappeared. Instead, the tree under which he was standing, is burning. The tree was struck by a lightning.
It's only a few feet away from other students so I swallow realizing how dangerous it is for them to be around me. I quickly take a few steps back and let the water fairies take care of the fire.
"Great, psycho's freaking out again", I hear another student whisper to her friend. I try not listening to them just like I would advice any other mind fairy to but it's not that easy after what I've just seen.
The scene of my family and I, it felt so real as if it had happened although I know that that's not possible. My mom's left way before that could have happened and dad died early. "So, looks like you could need a partner", Beatrix approaches me and I furl my eyebrows.
Honestly, she's not giving me any good vibes and I don't feel like I could ever trust her. "We're not doing a task for partners in this class", I state remembering how it was last year.
"Yeah but I could help you in our free time. I'm an air fairy and I have full control over my power. I could teach you a lot", she argues and the way she insists on it makes me wonder why she even approaches me in the first place.
"Thanks but I'm already working on it. It just taskes a lot of time", I tell her and quickly run up to Terra and Musa. "Don't worry about it", Musa immediately tells me, "They're stupid." "Who?", I ask confused.
"I can feel you worrying about other students, you know", she chuckles and I nod, "They're just talking. Don't let what they say matter." "Exactly. You're doing well, Scar. Just be patient", Terra smiles at me and I thank them.
Luckily, I can go back to doing something I really can. Fight. At the moment, Sky, Riven and I watch Dane and another new student have their first fight. They're pretty good. I understand why Saul chose them.
"Attack his legs!", Riven tells her from the sideline so she does and pulls Dane to the ground. "Could you be 50 percent less of a dick?", Sky asks in a mixture of being annoyed and being disappointed.
"That would be 50 percent less funny", Riven argues. "You weren't any different on your first day last year", I remind him. "Two blue eyes and a sprained ankle", Sky adds.
"What? Am I supposed to be thankful forever for you protecting me? I thought my friendship is enough gratitude. Plus, Scar, you weren't any better. You lost and we got together. Looks like I was pretty good last year."
"Yeah, last year", I joke back sarcastically. "Yes, it is", Sky also replies patting Riven's cheek. "Wow, thanks, princess. You're so nice to me. Why don't you suck my dick, again", Riven replies like a little offended child.
"How about you let yourself grow a mustache and show everyone how mature you are", I sass back and we joke about each other until Riven is distracted by his new project. "Put this away for once", Riven tells Dane who's about to look at his phone.
"Why should I do that?", the boy wonders. "Because you were stalking my Instagram profile last night but until now no one knows." "I was just wondering who's a second year student and my finger slipped off."
"Finger slipped off?", Riven laughs, "That's what you want to claim? Listen, I'm very generous, ask Scar. But maybe I won't be generous any longer." "One advice by me who's a littler smarter than him", I butt in, "Choose your friends wisely."
"Plus, be concentrated", Riven adds, "You fought eagerly and you lost. It doesn't matter how tall you are as a specialist or how strong. It's always about strategy. Hey, Mikey. Watch us." "Wait, Riv", Mikey says before starting to fight, "I'm not just fighting you for anything. Let's make it about something."
"Yeah, what?", Riven chuckles. "Scar, are you free tonight?", Mikey asks me and I laugh shaking my head. "What is it with you boys and the need to fight for a woman's attention? Why not say hello very nicely and ask how my day was?"
"Oh come on, Scar-", Mikey tries to defend himelf but Riven's had enough and attacks him so he would just fight with him to show Dane what it's about. After Riven's pulled Mikey to the ground, he grins at Dane and I triumphantly. "Yeah, I have to go", I say unimpressed and walk over to Saul and my brother.
