Steve's PoV
I walked into the gym, surrounded by my other teammates. We had our usual Friday afternoon basketball practise, and I was tired.
There was a new kid at school today, Billy Hargrove, and he was the biggest pain in the ass. All he did was distract me from lessons by kicking his chair, Billy was also very fond of doing and saying anything else that he knew would piss me off. One day, and I was already sick of him.
So when I walked into the gym and saw a shirtless Billy Hargrove talking to the coach, I almost turned around and went home right then. I threw my bag down by the bleachers and ran over to where them and some of the team were standing.
We made eye contact and he smirked, I turned my face away, trying to hide the blush I could feel on my face.
"Alright boys! This is Billy and he's new! Lets just run through our usual drills and then a game at the end, yeah?"
"Yes sir." We all chorused back.
"Good. Steve and Billy can you get the equipment out?"
I rolled my eyes and sighed. 'Yes sir."
I ran over to the sports shed, Billy trailing me. I was collecting cones when he walked in.
"Funny seeing you here, Harrington."
I snorted. "Piss off Hargrove."
"Ohh- there's some of the fiery Harrington I've heard so much about."
I thought about it. Tommy H has probably been telling him all about me, my rise to the throne, my great topple off, and the fact my best friend is a literal child.
"Gossiping about me now, huh?"
He chuckled and plucked the stack of cones out of my hands. "Sure. See you on the court dumbass."
I stood in the doorway of the shed, watching him run back inside. I gritted my teeth and slammed the door shut, running after him.
--
He was good, really good. He was fast, and light on his feet, he was better than me. It didn't help that I was distracted all session.
He took the ball quite easily, pushing me over onto my ass. He scored then turned back around to me, Billy grabbed my hand, pulling me up and put his mouth right next to my ear.
"Plant your feet next time." He let go of me and simultaneously shoved me back down, and stepped over my head.
I sat up groaning and met eyes with the coach from the other side of the court. He shook his head sadly and I stood up. I didn't bother going for a shower, I just grabbed my bag and shoved the gym's double door's open angrily.
I heard a pair of footsteps following me as I got into my car. I looked up and Billy was jogging towards me, his hair still dripping with water.
"Hey! Sorry about practice."
I nodded. "Whatever you say, Hargrove."
His face fell for a second but he covered it quickly with his usual smirk. "See you tomorrow sweetheart."
He walked over to his car, which was parked opposite me. "Tomorrows Saturday asshole!"
He just waved and peeled out of the parking lot. With a sigh I slumped against my seat, he's such a dick.
--
I woke up at 5:30 am to the sound of my alarm clock. I rolled over and shut it off, yawning as I did so. I had an early swimming training and then a shift at the pool later. Saturdays were annoying and amazing at the same time.
