A/n Happy Holidays! (If you don't celebrate at all, enjoy the random week off!)
Steve's PoV
My alarm went off and I groggily sat up and turned it off. I looked around my dimly lit room, it was practically empty. I was never really allowed to decorate it, I have no idea why.
I threw on my Christmas robe and made my way slowly down stairs. I was secretly dreading today, my family wasn't around for Christmas. I suppose they never are but I'd like for one year to be different. I'd like to wake up one year surrounded by family and the smell of breakfast in the air.
I flicked on the radio and Christmas songs came on, I left it on and made French toast for breakfast. I hummed along to 'Last Christmas' and flipped the toast.
The phone rang and I put the spatula, walking over to it.
"Merry Christmas babe!" Eddie said cheerily through the reciever.
"Merry Christmas. How are you?"
"Alright. How are you? Also Wayne says hi."
I smiled softly, Wayne has always been sweet to me, kinda like a fill in father. "I'm fine, I guess. Tell Wayne I say merry Christmas, and I'll see you both later at the Byers'"
We had all organised to have Christmas dinner at the Byers' mainly because Joyce had invited us all. She originally invited me because she knew I was going to be alone, but then it turned into an everyone thing. Even the kids parents would be there.
"I was hoping to come to see you soon? We could wrap all the presents and cook some sort of dessert together."
I grinned. "Yeah that would be fun! I'll see you soon then."
I hung up and went back into the kitchen to finish cooking and eating my toast. Shortly after, I heard a knock on the front door.
I ran to open it and Eddie hugged me, holding a shopping bag. I took the bag off of him and led him to the kitchen.
Eddie wrapped his arms around my waist and I laced my arms behind his neck and we slowly spun around the kitchen.
"I love you." Eddie smiled.
"I love you too." I rested my forehead against his and we stood still for a minute before he took a step back.
He clapped his hands together. "Right, go get changed and then we'll start baking."
I found a button up shirt that looked nice, and it had little snowmen in Santa hats randomly spread on it. I paired it with jeans and then ran back downstairs to where Eddie was digging around in the cupboards.
He stood up and I saw he was wearing a Christmas themed apron, that said "Kiss the cook, ho" I held back a laugh and he smiled at me.
"You wanna make rumballs?" (A/n if you diss rumballs I will break your fingers, politely)
I nodded and dug out a second apron so I wouldn't get coconut all over my shirt. Eddie turned the radio up and we sang along while cooking.
—
While the rumballs were sitting in the fridge to keep their shape, we sat on the floor in the lounge room surrounded by wrapping paper, tape and presents.
"Are you sure you're not really that upset that.. you know?" Eddie asked softly.
"I mean, a little but I'm used to not having them here so it's normal."
He nodded. "The first Christmas after I moved in with Wayne felt mostly like shit.. but I was glad to spend it with him."
"Yeah.. I'm really grateful for you. I love you."
Eddie held my hand in his own. "I know." (Han solo that you??)
I smiled at kissed his cheek and then checked my watch. "Oh- it's nearly time to go. Get changed and I'll start loading the car."
We both stood up and I stacked a few presents on top of eachother as Eddie ran upstairs. I grabbed my keys in my other hand and walked out to my car boot. I carefully put the presents in than went back inside for more.
I slammed the car boot shut and Eddie walked out of my house holding the container the rumballs were in, wearing a red and dark green flannel shirt, black jeans and a Santa hat.
"Nice hat!" I called out as I walked towards him.
He curtsied, careful not to drop the container. "Why thank you! I grabbed a pair of reindeer antlers for you too. They're in my car."
"Thanks. I'm gonna lock the door, than we can leave, alright?"
I kept walking to the house and quickly checked the lights were off, than locked the door. Eddie walked over to his car and grabbed the reindeer antlers and then jumped into the passenger seat of my car.
When we got to the Byers', Dustin and his mum, and max were already there. Dustin, Max and Will were blowing up a pool in the front yard, Claudia and Joyce were standing in the kitchen, chatting.
"Hi boys." Joyce smiled.
Claudia hugged me. "Hi sweetheart. How are you?"
"I'm good thanks, how are you? Merry Christmas by the way."
"I'm good."
She then hugged Eddie and Joyce took the container of rumballs out of my hand and put it in the fridge. We heard a car pull up and all looked out of the window, trying to figure out who it was.
We watched as Lucas and Erica jumped out and ran over to where the other kids were splashing eachother from the hose as the pool filled up.
Their parents walked inside and Joyce started talking to them. Me and Eddie looked at eachother than walked outside to where the kids were still messing around.
"Merry Christmas!" Eddie yelled.
Dustin dropped the hose back in the pool and the group of them ran to us. They crushed us in a group hug, and even though I could barely breathe, I was grateful I had the little shits.
