"I don't wanna say I crushed you, but I crushed you,"
"I don't wanna say you're a nerd, but you're a nerd," Maya said back, "And you won by luck,"
"No I didn't!"
"Yes you did,"
"I definitely won from skill,"
She shook her head and buckled her seatbelt up, plugging her phone into the aux.
"Ice cream by the pool?"
"I dunno,"
"We don't have to get in the pool,"
"Okay, yes please,"
"We have chocolate brownie flavour at home,"
"You have ice cream at home?"
"Maya, we have a waffle maker, of course we have ice cream at home,"
"If you have a waffle make you should have more than one flavour of ice cream at home,"
"We can get some more then,"
"No, no, I'm just saying," she said quickly.
"We have cones,"
"Don't like cones,"
"What?"
"I don't like them,"
"Weirdo,"
"No I'm not!"
"Well we don't have any tubs," I sighed, switching the car off.
"I can use a bowl,"
"By the pool?"
"Fine, I'll eat it off my hands,"
I looked over and her cheeks grew red, and her shoulders were hunched, but when I laughed she smiled.
"Come on, before Calum gets back, he'll eat it all,"
We went inside and she got changed in Calum's room, taking one of his tops, but I knew he wouldn't be happy if she did get in the pool, so I gave her one of mine instead. Then, I got us both some ice cream and we went outside, sitting with our feet in the pool and sunglasses on.
It was decent weather, which definitely helped my mood, and I was rather enjoying the company of my little sister. After so long of trying to keep in contact, it was almost a novelty to get this time with her. The circumstances weren't great, but I loved being able to be there for her.
She enjoyed the ice cream, then we got the pool floats out and she sat on a giant flamingo, giggling when Calum came into the back garden.
"Where's my invite?"
"You were at work!"
"Did you eat my ice cream?"
"Yeah, we are having a Maya day,"
"Sorry,"
"It's no biggie. I'm just gonna call my mum,"
He went back inside and Maya gave me a worried look, but I splashed her with some water and she smiled again, kicking some back at me.
"I'm cold now,"
"I barely splashed you!"
"I'm cold,"
"Come and give me a hug then," I laughed, splashing her as I opened my arms, "You won't go underwater,"
She shook her head and put her sunglasses down, then pushed the float away from me with another giggle.
