"Rise and shine Cliffo,"
"What are you doing here?"
"Having some bro time,"
"Lame," Calum mumbled, pushing past Luke and Ashton to bring me waffles, "Maya is at the hairdressers so we are hanging out,"
"Alone?"
"With a good book,"
"What if mum and dad find her?"
"How would they know she was there?"
"They're my mum and dad,"
"She is okay, Mike. Eat up,"
Scowling, I took the pancakes, Luke bouncing the bed as he sat down.
"Who took her?"
"I did,"
"How long will she be?"
"A few hours,"
"What if she gets hungry?"
"Well obviously I gave her snacks. She is fine. We are gonna hang,"
"You went behind my back," I said, climbing out of bed to get dressed, "She shouldn't be in public alone,"
"She's chatting to the woman, I made sure she was okay before I left. Come on Mike, we were doing a lot more than sticking with our caregivers at 18," he said, "We moved out on our own,"
"We moved out together and she has no friends,"
"Mike, she will be okay," Ashton said, "She wouldn't have let Calum leave if she didn't feel okay,"
"You don't know her,"
My eyes were slightly damp, and I wiped them, sniffing loudly.
"Dude, you're not just gonna leave the pancakes are you?" Luke said, "Come and eat them downstairs, I'll sit with you,"
He picked the plate up and nodded his head towards the door, so I followed him, shutting the other two in my room.
For some reason this was really triggering my anxiety, and I let out a frustrated sigh, before more tears flood out.
"Tell me exactly what's up,"
"He's just left her some place in town with strangers. She's cried all week Luke, she's told me she misses me because of all the time she had without me. I have to be there,"
"Okay... you chose the hairdressers right?
"Yeah,"
"So you know they're nice people,"
"Yeah,"
"Cal said they were having a lovely chat with her. It'll be good for her to talk to someone whose not a nerdy 30 year old man,"
"We aren't that lame," I said, but I couldn't help the laugh that escaped.
"I understand why you are upset... she is your sister, and she has relied on you to make decisions this week, not Cal. There probably should've been a discussion,"
"Last night he told me she had to be more independent which I understand, but she's quite appreciative of having people like us with her,"
"Yeah. He is right that she needs independence, and that we did a lot more stuff when we were her age, but thats relative to how comfortable you are as an individual, so she doesn't have to go off and do a bunch of crazy shit just cos shes 18,"
"Yeah,"
"I don't think that talk was exactly a good pre warning of what was gonna happen... however I don't think he was trying to be malicious. We all want the best for her,"
