Maya
Michael snored so loud.
I'd fallen asleep next to him, and woken up to the loudest, grumbliest snore in the universe, right in my ear. It scared me so much that I almost slapped him with my book still in my hand.
No matter how much I nudged him or moved his head, the snoring didn't stop, so I went into the kitchen for some water, finding Calum in there making a coffee.
"Sleep well?"
"No. He snores,"
"Coffee?"
"No,"
"I made some pesto pasta, would you like the leftovers?"
I shrugged and he got a bowl out anyway, filling it for me.
"Ash went home, maybe we could watch a movie?"
"I'm okay,"
"What? Are you gonna go and sit next to him again?"
"I'll take his room,"
He seemed a little disappointed, but I wanted my own space for a bit, so after I had reluctantly eaten the pasta at the table, I went upstairs to Michael's bed.
I turned his tv on, but ended up rolling onto my side and ignoring it, his covers ice cold.
Today I wasn't in the best mood. Well, I never felt great I guessed, but I could probably start crying and not stop for the next three hours. I didn't get why I couldn't feel happy here.
It was exhausting.
And naturally I was shit scared for school tomorrow. I kept thinking about way before all of this, when I had my old friends- I missed them. I missed feeling like I belonged somewhere.
Even though Michael said he loved having me here, he didn't choose it. I was handed to him.
I watched Calum walk past the room, then he reversed, poking his head in with a frown. Quickly, I covered my face, but he already saw so there was no point.
"This is no good, we can't have you crying everyday! We don't want you feeling sad at home,"
"Sorry,"
"It's okay, I just wish we could make you feel better," he said, carefully pulling the blanket from my face, "What's up?
"School,"
"Yeah, I thought so. You have done your first day, and that's the hardest day, I promise. We are so proud of you,"
"I'm scared,"
"Have you spoken to your friends about how the day might go?"
"A bit,"
"You should ask them to meet you before school,"
"They are,"
"Good. It's always better walking in with people! Have you got some good classes?"
"English,"
"Awesome. You've got this Maya, I promise. I'll cook us something nice to eat after too,"
"Thank you,"
"Bless you... it's gonna get much easier to go to school once you're used to it again. Is anything else up?"
"I miss how things were before all this, and before everything happened at home. My old friends and stuff,"
"That's quite normal," he said, ushering me to move over so he could lay down, "You probably will for a while, but you can make new friends,"
