Michael
"I come bearing gifts,"
"Gifts?"
"Yup,"
Calum waltzed into the living room with a full bag, and set it on the coffee table infront of Maya and I, where we had sat all day.
"I bought Maya a backpack, and a pencil case, and a lunchbox. I got you a lunchbox too so you can match. And me. I got a bit carried away,"
"We all have matching lunchboxes?" She asked, "Lame,"
"Oh,"
"But I love it,"
"Oh. Good," he said, stacking them on the table; they were pretty much plain black, but a few groups of small flowers were printed in the corner. Her backpack was just black too, but her pencil case was deep red.
"I got you some iron on patches for your bag. If you don't like them then Mike will probably take them,"
"Thank you,"
"And I got some fun snacks for you to take,"
"We appreciate that mate," I said, "Thank you. Now you're all sorted!"
"There's one more thing, it's actually from my mum ,"
From the bag, he pulled out a laptop box, and put it on Maya's lap.
"She bought me my first laptop, but that was ages and ages ago. I don't think she likes me being an adult anymore... she said she wanted to get you one,"
"Me?"
"Yeah. Mike's like family, so you're like family,"
"What's it for?"
"Homework, games, whatever. Now if you don't like the backpack or the pencil case that's okay, we can exchange it,"
"I love it. I love it all," she said, "Is this really for me?"
"Yep,"
"Wow,"
"That is gonna come in handy, this is amazing Cal,"
"Your sister is my sister,"
Though the other day she got quite defensive about her only being my sister, Maya stood up and gave him the biggest hug in the world. She didn't cry, but you could practically see all the mix of emotion radiating off her.
"I'll sew on any patches you want later,"
"You can sew?"
"Er, yeah?"
"Thank you,"
"You're welcome, whose on cooking duty tonight?"
"Me," I said, "Get your feet up, you must be exhausted,"
"I'm okay, you have cooked a lot for us,"
"No, sit down,"
"No, I'll cook. Work hasn't been too bad, you two seem comfy,"
"Fine, shall we wash your hair?" I asked Maya, "Then Cal can join us after we've eaten,"
With a nod, she stood up and followed me upstairs to the bath, taking it out the bobble. Suddenly, she seemed a bit quiet and upset, so I put my thumb up in question, and she turned it down.
"What's wrong?"
"I dunno,"
"Is it what Cal brought?"
"No,"
"Oh, well,"-
"I'm embarrassed, now,"
"I'm not judging you. There is nothing wrong with getting a helping hand from your family... I used to wash your hair all the time!"
