Michael

"She's running a fever, and she's been sick, but she has been fed and kept cool, and she has been sleeping on and off,"

"Thank you, Joy,"

"Will Calum be home soon? I have to dash to the shops but I don't want to leave you alone if he'll be a while,"

"Yeah. You are free to go," I laughed, "Thank you,"

"I'll leave the diffuser, and there is leftover soup. Keep me updated,"

"Will do,"

Before she left, she gave me a tight hug, then shut the bedroom door behind us.
I grabbed the thermometer and carefully put it under Maya's tongue since she was sleeping with her mouth open, but the beeps made her wake up.

"Go back to sleep angel,"

"I don't feel good,"

"No. You have a really high temperature,"

"I'm cold,"

"Can we keep the cover off for a little bit?"

"No I am freezing,"

"Okay," I said, gently brushing my hand up and down her forehead, "Can you have a drink?"

I passed her some water and she sipped it, starting to tear up; her hands were shaking too as she put the bottle down.

"Oh sweetheart,"

"I'm sorry,"

"You have no reason to apologise. Shall we watch something on the tv?"

"My head hurts,"

"You should take some more medicine,"

"I think I'm going to be sick again,"

I grabbed her bin and held it out, holding her hair back for her.

"How many times have you thrown up?"

"I dunno. I can't keep anything down, everytime I drink I am sick,"

"Okay. I think we need to get you to see a doctor, angel. Can I carry you to the car?"

"No," she whined, "I'm not,"

"If you can't keep water down then we need to see a doctor,"

"I'm too tired," she cried, covering her face, "Please,"

"I know sweetheart, I know. I'm gonna stay with you though, and we can take a blanket and some headphones,"

"What doctor?"

"We probably need to go to hospital," I said, "For some fluids, and some proper tests,"

I dried her eyes and hushed her, then left to put my shoes on and open the car door. Once I had carried her to the car, I strapped her in and locked the house up, driving us back to the hospital.

She puked again on the way there into an empty bag left in the car, so I threw that away when we got there, and asked for a sick bowl when I got her signed into the emergency room.

I sat with my arm round her shoulders to hold the blanket in place, feeling her shiver even though she was burning hot.

We waited about 45 minutes, then got called in, by Calum which was an absolute miracle because I knew Maya would comply. She'd not been very calm in the waiting room- we definitely got some stares.

"Deary me,"

"She can't keep water down, that's why she is here,"

"Good call, hope onto the bed, My'. I'm just gonna order some fluids and take your vitals,"
