Maya

"I look stupid,"

"You don't look stupid,"

"I feel stupid,"

"You don't feel stupid," Michael said, touching my cheek, "You feel normal,"

"Fuck off," I whined, pushing him away, "Calum, do I look stupid?"

"No!"

"You haven't even seen me!"

I ran through and he looked up from his breakfast, shaking his head.

"That's a nice uniform,"

"I don't have time to do my hair or anything,"

"I will straighten it, you do your makeup," Michael said, "But you need breakfast too,"

"No!"

"Maya,"

"No,"

I ran back to my room and hurriedly grabbed my makeup bag, pouring everything out onto my desk, before scrambling through everything with slightly shaking hands.

"Maya, hey, you've gotta calm down which I,"-

"I can't!"

"I know it isn't easy, but we need it to happen,"

"I look disgusting,"

"You look really nice,"

"So you think my normal clothes look gross,"

"Maya,"

"Stop saying my name,"

"You're just not used to this. Let me do your hair. You do makeup, then we can go,"

"I'm not going," I said, undoing the top button of my shirt, which Michael swiftly buttoned back up, then he pushed me onto my chair snd grabbed the hair straighteners.

"Yes you are, because it is going to be okay. Once you are there you will not feel this worried, but everything is super unknown right now and that's really scary,"

Swiftly, I wiped the tears forming in my eyes and sniffled, then wiped them again and found my mascara, for I couldn't cry once that was on. My makeup was gonna be light, but I also needed it to make me look awake- I hadn't slept much.

Once Michael had finished my hair, he gave me a long hug, then took my hand and grabbed my bag so we could go and put my lunch in.

Cal blew me a kiss as he was leaving, but we followed pretty closely behind.

"Are we too early?"

"Nope, we can head to reception and make sure your timetable is all sorted, and meet the head again,"

"People are gonna ask why I moved,"

"Just say you moved house,"

"Okay. What about why I am 18?"

"Needed a fresh start. You don't owe anyone any explanations,"

"Okay,"

"You are a very intelligent person about these things, you'll be okay. Put yourself out there for a few days and see what happens,"

He grabbed my bag from the back, then we climbed out the car and I followed him into school. We didn't get any weird looks, but maybe they recognised him anyway.

"Hello, hello! It's good to see you. Your uniform looks fab!" Mrs Attersfield said, running out from her office, "I am so excited for you to start,"

"Not sure the feeling is mutual," Michael laughed, "I reckon she's got some fun lessons though,"
