Maya
"Do you think Ashton is still downstairs?"
"I dunno, I heard mum get back and she talks,"
"Ashton talks a lot too. Probably best friends by now,"
We all turned out head as the door opened, and a young boy poked his head round, tears in his eyes.
"Ellen. I broke my lego,"
"What do you mean?"
"My car is broken,"
"I'll fix it later,"
"Fix it now,"
"I'm with my friends,"
"It's okay," Finn said, "Lego cars are important!"
She gave us a small smile, then left the room to go and help him, so I shuffled up across the bed we had all squished on to talk.
I thought I'd be getting tired, but it was actually nice to talk to people my age; it made me feel a lot better about school too.
"Who is that?"
"Her brother,"
"They don't look alike,"
"They're both adopted, dufus, not just her,"
"Oh,"
"She did say,"
"No she didn't!"
"Oh. Don't tell her I told you,"
"I won't," I smiled, looking over at him, "Thanks for hanging out with me,"
"You're tolerable, it's fine,"
"Hey,"
He grinned widely, and dimples appeared, as well as his weirdly straight teeth. Mine were wonky- I didn't smile with mine.
In fact he was pretty much opposite me in every way. Brown hair. Tall. Seemed pretty confident. Dressed normally and definitely wasn't stuck dressing like their brother when he was about 20.
"I'm kidding. You better come to school, we're in this together,"
"I will,"
"I will turn up to your house if not,"
"That's creepy,"
"I'll do whatever it takes,"
"You sound very desperate,"
He just laughed, then stretched and sat up, before picking up his prosthetic from the side and starting to put it back on.
"Imma head to the toilet and get a snack. Want anything?"
"I'm good, thanks,"
"Okie dokie. If you want a drink you're gonna have to ask Ellen, I have to hold the bannister,"
"I could grab your snack,"
"I've got it. Thanks though,"
Once he'd left the room, I checked my phone, and saw a photo from Michael of him tucked up in bed again. I was kinda mad Luke made him work, but at least I was busy anyway so we weren't missing out on too much time together.
Since Ashton hadn't messaged, I assumed he was still downstairs, and the grin on Finn's face when he returned told me I was right.
"Should be getting my parents round!"
"Told you he could talk,"
"You're quite quiet. Does he piss you off?"
"What? No?"
