Lakshmi turns off her 5:30 a.m. alarm and picks up her towel and heads to the bathroom. After having a warm refreshing bath, she goes towards the kitchen and gets stunned to see Sidharth.
"Haaye Raam, aaj dher ho gayi lagta hai. Meri alarm clock shayad thik se kaam nahi kar rahi thi. Kitne bajj rahe hai, Sidharth?", She asks.
"Huh? Maa, 6 bajj rahe hai.", He says glancing at the phone beside him.
"Achcha? Toh meri alarm kharab nahi huyi. Tu itni jaldi kaise utt gaya? Aur tu kitchen mein kya kar raha hai?", She asks in surprise.
"Paneer ke paranthe bana raha tha. Shehnaaz ke liye. Par yeh toot rahi hai.", He says with a sad face.
"Kya? Paneer ke paranthe? Shehnaaz ke liye? Aaj suraj kaha se ugh aaya? Kaamini ke teri zindagi se exit hote hi teri buddhi ne wapas tere bheje mein entry le li.", She sighs over dramatically.
"Maa.. subah subah apni nautaki chalu kar diya aapne. 4:30 bajje se khada hoon yaha.. ek bhi parantha nahi bana paaya abhi tak thik se.. Kya aap meri help nahi karogi?", He requests.
"Haaye.. aaj tu mera kidney bhi maangega na toh de dungi.. Yeh din dekhne ke liye meri aankhein taras gayi thi.", She said wiping her non-existent tear from her cheeks.
Sidharth rolled his eyes at his mother's tactics.
"Lao main bana deti hoon.", She said taking a step forward.
"No..no..no.. banaunga main.. aap bas instruct karo.", He said
"Montu.. Khushi ke maare mein heart beats rukh jaayegi..", she said pulling his cheeks like a little kid.
"Maa.. mujhe late ho jaayega..", he said.
"Hmm.. chal batati hoon kaise banate hai.. main ek banake dikhaati hoon.. phir tu bana lena uske liye.. thik hai?", She asked
"Hmm..", he hummed looking attentively at the way she filled and rolled the parantha. He then followed the exact same way by getting a few smacks by his mother on his hand whenever he went wrong but he didn't mind them as he was rather focused on getting the paranthas right.
"Montu.. waise aaj kya special hai jo tu uske liye parantha bana raha hai?", Asked his mother while he baked them on the griddle. He paused for sometime before speaking.
"Aaj kuch special nahi hai. Bas mujhe realise hua ki woh kitni special hai. Saara din kaam karti hai aur thik se khaana bhi nahi khaati hai. Jab dekho tab canteen se ya lunch meetings ke wajah se bahaar ka khaana khaati hai. Usko apni health ki fikar hi nahi hai, toh kisi ko toh uski health ki fikar karni padegi na?", He says.
Lakshmi silently stared at Sidharth's face while he flipped the parantha on the griddle. He turned around at looked at his ever chattering mom quietly staring at him.
"Kya hua? Kuch galat bola maine?", He asked.
"Nahi..", she said cupping his face and kissing his forehead.
"Maa.. mera parantha jal jaayega..", he says to lift up his mother's emotional mood.
"Aaj tu bana raha hai, thik hai par kal se main khaana banaugi apni bahu ke liye..", Lakshmi said.
"Maa.. main bana lunga", he blushes making her smile happily.
"Haan.. tu bana lega par yeh jo tune itna kachra karke rakha hai isko kya teri maa aake saaf karegi?", She asked pulling his ear.
"Aahh.. nahi meri maa kyu saaf karegi? Khaana toh Shehnaaz ke liye bann raha hai toh uski saas aake saaf karegi..", he giggles after shrieking.
"Huh?", Lakshmi was dumbstruck by his words. Her mouth fell open agape. He looked at her and stuffed a piece of parantha into her mouth.
