Chapter 41 - Sneak out

Anika stared at the message on her phone.

She was completely torn right now. In her heart, she understands Leon only does things for her own good and doesn't intend any harm.

But she also wants to keep her first friend. And she thinks Esther is not taking advantage of her.

As long as she can give, she will give to the people in her life. Isn't that how it is?

So Anika was really sad now that Leon didn't allow her to be friends with Esther.

She bit her lips and stared at her phone. And a rebellious idea formed in her mind.

She sent her reply to Esther in voicemail before her next class. When her teacher arrived, she hid her phone and seriously listened to the lecture.

When it was time for her to be dismissed, she saw her teacher off.

Looking at the leaving car, she took out her phone. She read again Esther's message on where she would wait for her to be picked up.

She anxiously looked back inside the house and saw Nanny Rose and Steward Ben were not looking, she sighed in relief. Maybe because they were used to Anika being a good girl, they were at ease.

They would never imagine that she would sneak out and run away.

"Anika, hop in!" Esther rolled down the window car and waved at Anika.

Anika saw this and jogged to the car. The door of the backseat opened, and Esther motioned her to come in.

The moment she sat down, the girl beside Esther greeted her.

"Hi!" Her overly friendly voice sounded.

Anika was a bit shy meeting new people, but there was also a sense of novelty. So she smiled and waved at her softly.

"Hello," She greeted in a small voice.

The woman gave Esther a glance before turning back to Anika.

"I'm Elise!" She held out her hand and introduced herself.

Anika took it and shook her hand gently.

"My name is Anika," Anika greeted back.

Esther smiled at this and patted Anika's shoulder.

"This is my friend. And the one driving too, her name is Dane," Esther introduced.

Dane, who was driving, glanced at them from the mirror and greeted back.

"Nice to meet you, girl!"

"They wanted to meet you, so we planned this get-together. We'll be eating out! It will be fun!" Esther joyfully cheered.

Anika also smiled, watching the liveliness of the three. She felt having friends was really fun.

When they arrived at their destination, Dane parked the car. The four of them alighted and stepped into a trendy café.

They settled at a table, and a waitress gave them menus.

Anika took one and looked at it. Leon had taken her to a café too, and she was trying hard to remember the beverage they ordered that time which she really liked.

But as she couldn't read the names that much, she found that the other three had already ordered and were looking at her.

"Not done yet?" Esther asked, a bit of impatience could be heard in her voice. The other two were also looking at her with raised brows.
