I couldn't see him at first glance. I studied the room thoroughly; there was just one person that could be him. I walked towards the furthest table; he was sitting with his back facing the door. I thought that may be intentional, just in case a fan would be around and recognize him. I mean... I was aware of the risks of meeting him in public; I bet he knew what could happen if someone recognized him being with a woman in public, not to mention he didn't know that woman too. Chan must have had his doubts as well. As I said, I did imagine a lot of case scenarios.
"Sorry, I'm late". I hurried to sit on the chair across from him". He lifted his eyes from the screen of his phone to me after a little jump o his chair.
"Oh, you scared me". He said startled taking his chest with his right hand. He was wearing an oversized t-shirt, jeans, and a mask, all black.
"Sorry". I apologized again.
"Was it too difficult to find the place?"
"No, no. It's just... I bite my lower limp embarrassed. "I took the wrong bus". He started to laugh.
"Are you ok?" I nodded covering my face out of embarrassment. "Do you want to drink something? I haven't ordered yet".
"Ah, sure". He stood up and I followed him. We left our hoodies behind to save the table. Honestly, that was so convenient. I could have never imagined myself leaving something on the table just to reserve the spot.
I looked up to read the menu; I regretted not looking at the menu beforehand, I was still a slow reader. After a trio of friends ordered, it was our turn. Chan ordered a strawberry smoothie and turned to me since I didn't say anything for a while.
"Uhm..." I looked at him, then at the cashier. "How do you say blueberry?"
"Ah, it's almost the same, beulluberi". He said kindly.
"Belu... Blueberry smoothie". I just darted. He laughed and ordered for me. "Ah, but I'm paying mine". I said when he took out his wallet.
"It's fine".
"No, really".
"It's fine". He insisted, prolonging the vowels. The cashier looked at us somewhat done, so I just didn't insist anymore. We didn't even have to wait five minutes until the other guy preparing the drinks handed us our smoothies. Back at our table, I was thinking about something to say, but nothing interesting came to my mind.
"So... how are you? Are you not too tired? You just had a concert yesterday". I recalled.
"Nah, I'm good. We have the day off today".
"Oh, nice". He kept staring at something at me. "What is it?" I touched my face remembering I was sprinting just 10 minutes ago.
"You have a lock of hair to the other side. He reached out his hand as if he wanted to fix it but withdraw it swiftly.
"Ah". I quickly pulled a small mirror from my bag and fixed it myself.
"And what have you been doing these days?" He asked after I was done.
Naturally, I told him about the places we have been visiting after the event. Chan was surprised at how many places we visited in such a short time, we were every day out and almost the whole day. He asked about my thoughts on Seoul too, I couldn't tell a single negative thing, there were always so many fun things to do!
When I mentioned Ella and I visited Busan and that we spent a whole afternoon at the beach, he mentioned he wanted to visit the beach that summer too; he said it with so much expectation in his eyes that it was cute.
