Chan and I got to Seoul without news, and since it was kind of late to take a bus to my grandma’s house, I stayed at a hotel with him. Little did I know that our anniversary wasn’t over yet.

“Do you want to shower first? I’ll order something to eat in the mid-time”. I said as we got into our room.

“Ah, you go. I have to check something from work first”. Chan sat on the sofa taking out his laptop while I checked out the room.

It was pretty large and classy, white and wooded. The bathroom had a huge mirror and the room had its own kitchenette.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I’ll order us dinner”. I felt bad knowing that room wasn’t cheap at all and I wasn’t paying for it.

“Ok!”. I kissed his cheek and jogged to the bathroom with my things hanging from my arm.

When I left the bathroom, most of the lights in the room were off and a pair of candles were dimming on the table with our dinner already served. I was surprised. My eyes went from that to Chan’s proud smile while he walked towards me and led me over the table pulling myself by the hand.

“Gosh, did you make it?” I asked sitting while looking at the plate with pasta and taking a look at the kitchenette. I could see a pot and some other things still there.

“Thanks for taking forever in the bathroom”. I blushed knowing he had heard me humming in the shower.

“Ah, I feel bad. I didn’t prepare much for today”.

“With the present and the day with you is more than enough”.

“Still…”

“Don’t think about it”.

“Have I told you that you are the best?” I tilted my head staring at his handsome self getting shy.

“Stop that”, he smiled shyly while looking down.

We had a peaceful dinner and went to bed shortly after that. We were tired after being around all day.

The next day, Chan was already up working on his laptop when I woke up, even when it was Saturday. He said he had an idea for an arrangement he was making, so he needed to do it right away and it was not going to take him long. But it ended up taking him more than he thought it would.

I ended up ordering breakfast for the two of us, and even though Chan joined me for a bit to have his own, I ate almost alone.

“Sorry”, he apologized in Korean when he looked at the time.

“It doesn’t matter”. I was getting my things ready to check out, it was time to go to my Grandma’s.

“I didn’t think it would take me so long”.

“It’s fine”. I said closing my bag; it still bothered me a little bit though but I understood it was important and part of a creative process. How would I not know when I worked with writers?

“Do you want to stop by somewhere before taking the bus?” He asked hugging me from behind and resting his chin on my right shoulder. “It’s quite warm today, what about some ice cream?” He tempted me.

“Hm…” I really thought about it. “No, I shouldn’t. I want to buy something for Grandma though”.

“Is that so? Let’s go together”.

“Ok”. He kissed my cheek and went to get his things ready as well.

I had plenty of fun shopping with him. He would go around the stores hissing and saying “Hm… will this be enough? Maybe we should take this just in case too. Uh… yeah, les take this too”. That way, we ended up with two heavy bags of groceries, creams, and a new pillow.

We were at the terminal already when Chan suddenly got nervous.

“You know, I was thinking…” I turned to him giving him my full attention. “Ah, it’s nothing, it’s nothing”.

“What is it?” I asked ready to complain if he said it was nothing again.

“Uh… Would you like me to go with you?”

“To my granma’s?”

“Hm”. He nodded. “I would have to return in the evening though”.

“Of course! Why not? It doesn’t trouble you, does it? My grandma will be happy to meet you”. He giggled.

“Ok, let’s go then”.

We bought our tickets and rode the bus to Gwangmyeong.

As expected, my grandma was happy to meet him finally. Remember she was the first person I talked about him. She already loved him.

“I would have been disappointed if you didn’t come with her”. She said while receiving us, Chan let go a giggle and gave me a weird look I couldn’t understand.

My grandma busied herself attending Chan while we insisted it was not necessary. But, when has she listened to anyone?

We talked for a long while and played Jenga. Chan was nervous as heck at the beginning but being like he is, he was fine shortly. I bet it would have been so much fun with Grandpa there.

Even when my grandma insisted on Chan staying like crazy, he left in the evening as we had talked. I knew he still had things to do, and I didn’t want to be the reason he was late on his schedule or had to sleep less to get his things done. But he promised to visit soon.

After arranging my things in the bedroom, I stood in the middle of it checking everything. Despite being the second time moving there, it felt like this time my life in South Korea had finally started.
