Days passed by too slowly. It irritated me the fact of knowing I wasn't probably going to see Chan in more than 3 weeks and meeting the reason I couldn't see him not even once out of the apartment's building didn't make it better at all. I had to fight the urge to call her out.
She got into the elevator with me once again too. I panicked for a second there. But something came to my mind quickly.
I made my phone buzz in my pocket pressing the screen, and faked a call.
"Uncle, how are you?" I was actually enacting parts of a dialogue from my Korean textbook. It's so embarrassing now that I think about it. "Thank you, yeah, I just saw them the other day. Yeah, I'll be going back next week, I have to go back to work. Vacation is over". I leaned my back turning to her so I could see her, and I caught her looking at me. "Where?" She fixed her hair trying to cover her face even more. "Ah... yes, Uh". I did my best to keep up with the fake conversation as long as I could. We got to floor 19th and I got off. She followed suit.
Of course, that wasn't the floor of my Airbnb. I went to a different one on purpose, and walked all the way through the hallway to the last door just to see how far she would go. She was really following me though.
"Ah, I forgot to pick up dinner. What am I thinking about?" I got back on my steps. "Yeah, I'll call you later. Yes". I put the phone back into my pocket and hurried to the elevator.
I could see her walking to the neighbor's door before the elevator door closed.
"Sorry dude", I said in my mind to Jong, the one who actually lived there.
I didn't know much about him, but I met him at the Laundromat around the corner when I was still living in the first Airbnb I rented. We talked quite often there while waiting for our clothes to wash and dry. He told me to go over if I ever needed something, that wasn't happening though.
That day, I didn't go back home until really late. I wandered around the neighborhood coffee hopping for a while until I got bored and headed to Itaewon, but there was not a single person with the ones I usually hang out there that day. I felt a bit lonely so I went back home after a drink.
I wanted to call Chan, but I knew he was busy those days. And, overall, it wasn't a great idea either; his voice made me miss him even more and since I wasn't feeling great that day, I didn't know if I could keep my cool.
I still remembered and sighed at how difficult was for us to part ways that day at the company. But we did talk over the phone the following day, of course, it was his birthday. We couldn't talk much though.
At least I didn't see the girl around my place again after that day I practically ran away from her. And Jong didn't say anything about a weird person around his place either so I guess things were fine for the time being. And the few times I went out, because I stopped going out in the evening to minimize the chances of bumping into her, I didn't see her.
I didn't know if she stopped waiting and following Chan though, but I didn't think he was going to tell me if she still did.
The following days, Chan would text me over lunch or pay me a call at least once per day the moment he could make some time or was taking a break. It melted my heart how he tried to make a funny greeting every time he called, and every time was different too.y7
Soon, they left for London with all the press and fans following them to the airport. And as expected, we couldn't meet before that either.
"Hey! How was your flight? Are you not tired?" I asked. He video-called me soon after getting to their hotel.
