"What do you mean? It's not". I complained looking at his phone.
"It is, look at it". He insisted.
"I'm looking at it, it's not!"
We were discussing whether the axolotl was cute or not. Chan thought it was freaking cute, but I didn't. I mean... have you seen an adult axolotl? All kinds of babies are cute but it's completely different when they grow up.
"Look at his face". He kept insisting.
"For God's sake, it's not. Look". I leaned over and scrolled down on his phone. "That's how it looks like in the wild as an adult". Chan started at the screen for a second.
"Is it the same?" He asked surprised. "Is not another type or something?"
"No, it is the same". He even clicked on the image to make sure it really was an axolotl.
"It looks a bit different".
"I told you it wasn't cute".
"But baby axolotl is cute".
"Damn! You're so stubborn". I said giving in and finishing what was left on my plate.
"You're stubborn as me saying it's not cute".
"But you can't claim axolotls are cute, just baby axolotls are cute, and if".
"Uhm... you might be right".
"An-" He interrupted me.
"Anyway, they're cute".
"Fuck". I gesticulated grabbing my head and looking at the ceiling. It might be silly but I was so done with the conversation. Chan was laughing so hard, he was really enjoying it. "Look, are humans cute?"
"Some".
"Correct, but you don't say humans are cute. Are human babies cute?"
"Yeah, most of them". He nodded smiling.
"It's the same!" I exclaimed raising my arms, already losing it.
"I know! I'm just kidding, don't be mad!" He said laughing and leaning towards me touching my shoulder with his.
We were seated on the carpet using the two-seat sofa as a backrest and the coffee table as the dining table. The apartment was small so there was no space for dining space.
"You have the knack to exasperate people".
"Don't say that". I closed my eyes and shook my head trying to clear my mind and move on from that conversation.
"Do you want some more?" I asked him pointing at his empty plate.
"I'm good, thank you".
"Are you sure?"
"You just put a pile of food here. It was like 3 plates in one". He said giggling.
"But I've seen you eat a lot, there's more if you want, really". I insisted.
"I'm good, really. Thank you".
"If you say so..." I stood up, grabbed the dishes, and headed to the kitchen.
"Let me do that", said Chan catching up with me at the sink the moment I put down the plates.
"What?" He pointed at the sink with his two hands, palms open. "No! Why would you do that?"
"I feel bad doing nothing".
"I won't let you wash the dishes; you're out of your mind. I was not going to wash them now anyway". I tried to shoed him he wouldn't leave so I pushed him from the back all the way back to the sofa while he walked in tiny. "Do you want frappe? If we don't take it out it is gonna freeze". I said opening the freezer. "No!" I exclaimed grabbing one of them.
